Marvel S vs IQ Tour Nano
« on: December 18, 2015, 09:04:19 AM »
I currently have a Storm Marvel-S but am in need to replace it due to half of the logos starting to be worn off from sanding the ball during college bowling. My question is, how does the IQ tour nano compare to the Marvel-S?

I personally don't think they are anywhere close, for me the Marvel S was much stronger in the midlane and much more ball over all......neither were favorites of mine, but I liked the Marvel S way better. I liked the Disturbed better than the Marvel S.  It was one of my favorite ball, now I have Haywire which is awesome and stronger than both. It takes surface changes well, needs oil and sits on top of my arsenal.

For me the IQ Nano is better when I want to keep my angles closed down or blend the wet/dry cliff on longer patterns with volume. Marvel S for me is extremely early and doesn't generally last more than a game or two on any pattern. I think the Haywire is more versatile than either of these and worth a look.

Morpheus, would you compare the haywire more similar to the Marvel-S then? I haven't looked at the RG line in a while, didn't realize that the haywire would be considered that strong since it's only in the HP3 line.

Roto's HP-3 is equivalent to the Master Line from Storm.

Haywire cover is probably just as strong but with a slightly weaker core I think the ball matches up to the cover better and provides a more versatile shape as the lanes transition. The Disturbed core is higher RG and lower differential than the Marvel S so for me it's usable longer and on a wider variety of conditions.

The Marvel-S was a unique piece.  It was a symmetrical core, RG was 2.48 and Differential was .052, with a the highly aggressive NRG coverstock.  There really isn't a replacement for it.  Most everything is asymmetrical today and generally low RG and high Diff.  Strictly from reaction, try a Hammer Bad Intentions or maybe a Motiv Jackal.  If you're a straighter player, try an Optimus Solid and take it to 1000.

As we know, the IQ Tour Nano and the Marvel S both had the NRG cover. What I didn't realize previously until a month of 2 ago was that the Microbite cover from Roto was/is/is supposed to be/is close to the NRG cover from Storm. Makes sense. The Hyper Cell (which has been noted is discontinued) and the Haywire both have Microbite. So, if Microbite=NRG, you have the Hyper Cell, Marvel S, Haywire, and Tour Nano (in roughly that order of aggressiveness as well) to choose from. I have seen the Hyper and Marvel get put away quickly as others have stated between the aggressive core/cover combo. However, the Haywire and Tour Nano have staying power, still are aggressive enough to get you around the corner with an appropriate cover prep, and will allow you to stay with the ball longer than the Hyper and Marvel S.

If I had to choose just ONE, I would go with the Haywire. more diff than the Tour to help kick the corner when you move in, and yet not too aggressive so that the ball blows up the pattern in 5 frames. Plus the Disturbed core used in the Haywire is amazing.
