IQ Tour vs. Tour Power
« on: May 22, 2012, 06:26:17 PM »
Could this be the replica to the fabled tour power? Looking at the numbers, its very close. Im looking very forward to the IQ tour. With the low diff, I anticipate drilling it very strong (over or under ring).

Looks similar to the Tour Power to me, too.

Seismic has had great success with their Solaris Blackout, which also has a low RG (2.486) and low differential (0.035).  The cover on the Blackout is also weak -- not sure how it compares to R2S -- but I made the mistake of not putting an aggressive drill on it.  Once I fixed the layout the ball became an amazing control piece.  The core revs up nicely but the ball is smooth as urethane off the friction.

I think Storm has a winner here!

For some reason, the IQ Tour is hitting me as a potentially really good benchmark ball.  The specs, core shape, and cover all seem to point in that direction.  I'm really excited to try it.  My long time benchmark balls have been the V2 and HyRoad.  Really looking forward to testing this one.

As soon as I saw the numbers I instantly thought benchmark ball. Unfortunatly I've never thrown the Tour Power (yet) to compare.

For some reason low rg, low diff balls have never come into vogue, despite the great success of the Tour Power.  Brunswick had one in the Battle Zone Cannon, and there have been a few others.  The coverstock on the TP was supposed to be aggressive, but if you let it polish up to the lane, rather than keep it dull the shell was very tame, which was an advantage.  I remember throwing mine at a Senior Masters in Tucson on a brutally tough pattern and having a great look.  Even one of the Storm staffers didn't really know about the ball at the time, and was asking me about it.

Bob,

Maybe you were thinking of a similar Brunswick ball, but the Cannon had a high Differential, .054", and was one of the flippiest balls of that generation. See

I think the IQ Tour may be one of the unsung balls of this year. Many of the higher ball speed bowlers may have to ignore it due to its low flare but if your ball speed and rev rate are close, it may be as amazing as the Tour Power or a Pulse (also a low RG, low Differential gem).

Loved the Pulse and the Tour Power!! Pulse was one of those "get me out of jail" balls. I always new I could use it when and if nothing else worked. The Tour Power was great for the true 2:1 sport patterns at the time. It would pick up the roll, but because it didn't over flare, would have a little miss room. I can't wait to drill an IQ tour!! ;D

Totally with ya Tommy. Mine is scheduled to arrive Friday and I aim to get it drilled ASAP so I can get it in my bag! Loved both the PULSE and TOUR POWER!

Why companies dont make any more of these balls than they do is crazy-most every major company should have 1 of these balls in the line.

I love my Blackout, with me being slightly rev dominate at times it definitely bails me out on med-dryer lanes, I expect that the IQ will do the same for Storm folks.

Also, I would guess that we will see some of these on tv in the near future, with the rev rates the guys on Storm staff have this ball will be money for them.

C'mon, we all know the reason for that - volume. These types of balls do not hook 73 1/2 boards, so 90% of the bowling population will not buy them.

They're useful for those who want some semblance of control with hitting power and for those who provide most of  balls power with their release. (I never could believe, even though I saw it so many times with my own eyes, how powerful the Pulse was. Its strike percentage was up there with that of the Virtual Gravity, one of the best I have ever seen.)

Oh I totally agree, but what the paying public wants vs. what they actually need are realistically totally different.

And I 100% agree about the Pulse, those balls are some of the best Ive ever thrown.

And its totally fine with me if many continue not using lower diff. balls, with my track record with them they are taylor made for my style, so I consider it somewhat of an advantage being able to actually play the track or further right with my rev rate while others are inside of 20....
