Anyone here has a Pitch Black?
« on: April 24, 2014, 12:07:12 PM »
I'm looking at this for a spare ball. The core shape and specs looks similar to the hammer arson low flare. Which is a medium-dry lane ball.

I may put an order for one soon but wanted to see if anyone has tried it already.

Thx,
Alexander

The pitch black has not been release yet and I haven't seen anyone posting about having an early release yet

Staffers received their orders yesterday. I personally did not pick up a pitch black. But the wipe out and punch out are 2 great balls for the price! Keep an eye out for the reviews flowing in this week and next!

Havent seen a pitch black, but I have used the original Natural, and now throw a Blue Hammer.  For spares the Pitch Black will be fine, but I would take the shell up to at least 2000, and preferably 4000.  Urethane can be great as a strike ball on tough conditions, but only if you keep the surface so as to play very direct.  If you start having to play any significant out angle, even the high rev guys are going to be disappointed with carry.  I have shot some good numbers, and made money with urethane, but only when I could stay outside of about 9 board, and play up the boards.

Totally agree carry from outside creates good angle to carry and in some centers is a preferred line.  With  the amount of dry on the outside that the majority of centers put out I am amazed more don't try urethane from that angle much easier on old bodies playing down and in.   :)

"old bodies"' certainly defined me.  Funny thing is I hated the urethane short oil era, although I learned much later that it was more the short oil than the urethane equipment that I hated.  I agree that guys are really missing the boat on urethane outside.  I think the problem is that most young guys think maximum hook means maximum carry when in fact it is more about preserving rotational energy to make it release at the optimum time.

Well one of the centers that I practice at got one from Storm early. I'll be picking it up tomorrow. I'll post my thoughts and some videos as soon as I can.

Just a quick follow up on urethane.  I shot 2163 all events last week in a local tourney using urethane playing very straight right up 8 board on their house shot.  Ball was 4000 wet sand.  Guys were throwing tour fusions and asylums but had to get 5 boards deeper than me and hook the lane much more.  Even higher rev guys playing that way didn't carry any better than I did, and they had tougher transitions to deal with.  As good as I shot, the minute I went away from the pocket it was an automatic 10 pin.
