Issues with Lucid
« on: March 23, 2013, 10:15:31 AM »
I have about 20 games on my Lucid, it appears to have ball death.  I called Storm, spoke with a tech rep, he states they are experiencing this.  He said to scuff up the cover and give it a warm bath.  Has anyone else experienced this or is it just me?  In the first 10 games, I had two, 279 games and if the cover is this touchy, this ball is not for me...

No...have not.... was one of the biggest sellers here last year...

Try using the Power House Adrenaline Ball Steroid Wipes...

Around here better bowlers are all using these pads...with great success...

They might seem a little pricey at first...About $12.00  for a package of 10...

But WORTH every penny...

Just out of curiosity, how often and when do you clean your balls?

I wipe it after every use and clean it after I'm done.  I noticed a lot of the Lucids glazed up and some guys have polished there's up.

The Lucid out of the box was a 4000 abralon pad finish...If the ball is getting
to shinny,  then hit it with the pad more often...I would after every 3-6 games...

Interesting...I sold about 10 of these in my shop in the past few months...suddenly about 3 of them have come back with very low games and won't hook anymore.  I was puzzled by this as well.....

One I know only had literally 15 games on it.  I drilled one myself and put 100 games on it and sold it last month.  It still hooked like day 1.

I think that this ball is just like the virtual gravity. That ball needed a lot of maintenance and so does this one. I guess I'm sorta lucky I bought the critical theory instead. Also remember the surface is 500/4000.

Well kinda funny this is brought up bc im sorta going thru this as we speak. I owned my lucid for about 4 months. Got it the DAY it came out.. Worked amazing for me. Stopped throwing it for about a month since i really dont need much ball with me bowling 2 handed. So i ended up trading my buddy for his iq tour pearl. Well i bowled with my friend a couple days ago and you can tell he hasnt cleaned it in the 3 weeks he has owned it.. lets just say even with my rev rate i cant get this ball to move an inch anymore.

I haven't had that problem with either one of mine.  But then again, I clean and touch up the cover on a regular basis.

My only issue with the Lucid is that it starts reading the lane too early.  A combination of the drill, my release, and ball speed, have forced me to polish, then use extender polish, just to make the ball usable on on longer and heavier oil.  I never have to worry about it recovering, because it never gets down the lane too far before it starts to hook.  In short, I have not worried about ball death.

I probably have about 50-70 games on mine.  Like a lot of very strong shells, the Lucid will tame down after about 20 games if you are really trying to hook the lane.    I actually have liked it better after it polished up to the lane a bit, because I like to go straighter, and the core shell matchup on the Lucid is great for my lower axis rotation.  The ball has been tremendous for me on very long patterns.  I havent liked it as well on shorter patterns ( under 40 feet )

My son has a Lucid and he started complaining about the ball not hooking anymore after only a few weeks.  I recently took the ball into a pro shop and put it in the Revivor and needless to say; after only about 2 minutes, I opened the door and found the Lucid completely saturated.

I am going to throw this out there because I can.  I dont think this is an EBI issue.  I dont think this is a Storm Lucid issue.  I think this is a bowling industry issue.  Visionary tried for the longest time to stay away from the soaker covers and they watched their sales dwindle.  Now that they have brought out some stronger covers to help compete with the other companies, bowlers are once again raving about the latest releases; the Warlock XV and the Classic.

This topic can be "Issues with Lucid".  This topic can be "Issues with Ebonite".  Fact is.....this is really a topic about "Issues with high end coverstocks".  Get used to it because I dont think it is going away unless these new oils being released by Kegel (Fire and Ice) are really oils that wont be absorbed nearly as quickly as the predecessors.  Lets hope that this is the case.

I drilled Lucid when they were first released. My Lucid after 15 games looked like It was highly polished and was never touched with polishing pad. After every night of bowling, ball was cleaned. I also talked to Storm, but awhile back. If they are having issues, must be certain batches. I have sold quite a few Lucids and only a few have same issue of shining and losing reaction. One guy on my team uses his religiously and don't think a drop of cleaner has touched his ball and his looks out of box condition and has not lost and reaction. Guess it is time to plug an sell and replace with Defiant Soul.
