Compliment to Special Agent
« on: February 25, 2007, 11:16:08 AM »
Just looking for a broader range of experience here. I have drille dout a few Specioal Agents for guys and we all seem to like them but all are suffering from the same issue.

Every 3-4 weeks our house shot breaks down really bad and the special is just too much. We need the same look but just need a ball with less overall reaction.

I was thinking an order of Agents but I was wondering if that ball is going to be too snappy with the same drilling?

Drill pattern is pin right of and slightly above the ring finger with the cg kicked out of stacked by 3/4" and a low weighthole as the ball had a 3-4 pin.

ANy suggestions?

T-poad pearl. Same cover just pearl and a weaker core. I have both and can ball down from the special agent to the t-road pearl.

I would go with the Agent, ball looks very impressive.

I am wondering this myself.  I wonder if the Agent would be good?  Then again, the other person made a good point that the T-Road has the weaker core (but still fantastic core) but same coverstock.

I have both the Special Agent and just the Agent and they are laid out 3 3/8 by 3 3/8.

I can either pull out the Agent until the lanes get tight then switch to the Special, or I can use the Special first to give me some hold room. Plus with the same drillings I have about 5-7 boards difference and its easy to read between the two.

Maybe there is a difference in the reaction shapes?  Maybe that could be a determining factor.

I mean between the Agent and the T-Road.

I have a Special and can relate...

With this, I decided to go for a pearl.  While the T-Road (pearl-reactive) has been on order for a while, I decided to buy a Shift (pearl-particle) in the meantime. I find this ball pretty versatile, handling both friction and carrydown situations.

I have a Special (left in box condition) and original Agent drilled the same.  Overall I can cover about the same amount of boards with the two, but the original Agent will react quicker to friction so it's really just a difference in shape.  From what I've seen of the T-Road Pearl I would consider it more of a step down than the Agent.

I drilled a Special Agent and Spit Fire about 3 weeks ago. While they're not drilled the same or have the same reaction shape they compliment each other well. The Spit Fire hooks 5 boards less than the Special. See my profile for the ball specs.

There's been nights where I've started with the Spit Fire and ended with the Special when there's been heavy carrydown. There's other nights where I've started with the Special and finished with the Spit Fire when the mids burned up too much. The Spit Fire can handle fresh and more carrydown than I thought for a non-particle pearl. It won't handle a lot of carrydown though. So far I haven't had a night where I haven't had a good look with at least one of these balls and I've bowled on a good combination of easy and tough conditions since I've had them drilled.

Good luck with your choice!

Thanks guys....

the SpitFire hadn't crossed my mind eventhough I have drilled several for guys here and everyone loves them.

We have lots of friction on the backend (40+ year old wood just resurfaced 2 years ago) so I don't think the Pyro would work.

SHift, Agent or SpitFire.....man, too many choices. What about a Toxic or Doom?

Why is it that I can help my customers choose the right ball for them but can never seem to pick one for myself??? hehehe...odd :-)

Personally, I think I am going to end up with a Spit Fire, but I am also using a Thunderstruck Solid so who knows...  I asked about this same question to my pro shop person and they recommended a Spit Fire to me.
