Jolt Solid to replace XXXTreme ?
« on: June 16, 2008, 10:46:18 PM »
To those of you that have owned or used both how close are these two beyond sharing covers? I need to replace a XXXTreme. Is this a good choice? Any other suggestions in available Storm balls?

Dude, I can relate with the revs and the ball hooking. Mr. Straight Ball is a joke about what my ball does not do.

Here's my 2¢...I bowl those same conditions as you and find the weaker pieces tend to not get the job done against a field of big core/cover throwers. I'll give you some options, Attitude, solid Street Rod or Rapid.

Attitude -- this ball is not a jump off the spot ball, it makes a smooth transition & is easy to read.

Street Rod -- I tossed this ball at Open House in it's box condition, I was surprised! It was easy to get down the lane and it was not missing the breakpoint. I ordered one myself because I want a solid I can use on a regular basis.

For you, I'd watch your pin to PAP plus the pin to VAL distances. If you are "taking something off" to let the ball work, it sounds like the layout + ball are not the right match. I take something off to hold the ball back, it's already doing to much as it stones the 9 all to often!!!
Bakes...Bevel is for wimps!!!

Straight
Now we're on the same page.I have the Attitude and it's a great ball but too much for these conditions. I track lower than most so I naturally get length and snap.If I polish it I have to contend with carry down.
I'm looking to replace a control ball not a hooker.
You and tommy both suggested the Rapid Fire.
This may be the alternative and it's cheap enough so it won't be a big deal if it's not.My son prefers med gear too so it will get used.
From the replies there isn't a lot of love for the Jolt solid so I may just pick up an elcheapo pro pin to satisfy my own curiosity.
Rapid Fire on the press this week.

PS I should mention this is for wood lanes. The Attitude is just dandy on synthetic but grabby on the pine.
