I have had a lot of success with a rico layout on my hyroad. This layout really smooths out the hyroad's reaction and the huge weight hole required adds a bit of asymmetry to the core.

Push comes to shove you just plug and redrill it. Make sure you know your axis point - its important in the layout. If your axis is across and up (versus just across or across and down) you will need to elevate the pin a bit from the center of the grip to avoid the ball flaring over the fingers.
I've had success with the rico hyroad at both OOB and green scotchbrite surfaces.

thanks tom, i got a few days to think about what to do with this ball seeing as i just ordered it yesterday, my buddy who drills my equipment lives in NH, and i live in NY, which kinda makes it tough because ive never had my axis figured out

You can figure your axis out on your own:
Take a piece of white thumb tape and rip it down the middle vertically (so you have two long, narrow pieces). Make an X out of the two pieces of tape and place it maybe 4 inches to the right of your grip (for a righty). Throw the ball and observe how the tape X wobbles. Your goal is to move the tape X up/down/left/right so it minimizes wobble for the first 20-30 feet of the lane. Once you get it to a point where the X stays pretty stationary, you have your axis point.
I wouldn't even worry about trying to measure it yourself. Just leave the tape on and bring it to NH with you
