Title: Looking for a ball under Tropical Heat Hybrid
Post by: rctc286 on August 26, 2011, 04:44:00 AM
I have a tropical hybrid but when the lanes are to dry its kinda hard to use. I have tried the red and blue tropical heat didnt like it to much kinda skittish. It didnt like for me to move left with it looking for different options. I am low rev 290-300 rev rate. I really dont want to try a tropical breeze I am afraid it might be like the heat. Let me know thanks.

Natural Pearl should do the trick.
The more I practice,the luckier I get.

i am unsure I have enough hand for the natural pearl and I had a dark star wasnt my cup of tea very spotty ball. I was thinking a dv8 misfit or a hammer grape vibe very unsure I just dont know.

You posted your question in the Storm forum, and your signature states"Storm (why throw anything else!) ".
That is why you received Storm/Roto ball suggestions. If you're looking at other ball companies, may I suggest you post your question in the appropriate forum. As for "not having enough hand" for the Natural Pearl,if you're bowling on a true dry lane lane condition, you need a ball to get through the heads cleanly. The NP will do just that.
The more I practice,the luckier I get.

First off, 290-300 revs is not a low rev rate. One of the Naturals (or other urethane) should be an option for every somewhat serious bowler.
The breeze has a low differential, so it will be different than the heat hybrid. It may just be what you need.

A polished Riot might do the trick. It's not Storm, but it's part of the same family. It sounds like the pearl balls are kinda squirty/flippy for you, so a weak solid would be the next best bet. You might even want to drill it weak to further tame the reaction, while still allowing the ball to have more pop than a urethane piece.

Grape Vibe is the equivalent of the Tropical Heat pearl. If the Trop Heat pearl didn't work, the Grape vibe is not likely to unless you used a drastically different drilling.

If the Trop Heat Pearl and the Dark Star didn't work for you, I'd be surprised if anything did unless you experimented with both drillings and surfaces. Both of these are barely 1/4 to 1/2 a step weaker than the Hybrid. That's notmally not enough of a step down, when there's not enough oil for the Hybrid.
The fact that one was too skiddish and one was too spotty indicated you probably still should have been using the Hybrid. If there wasn't enough oil, then you needed a ball from a different company. Maybe a light oil solid like a Chainsaw SOS or a Blue/Green Visionary. Heck, maybe even a sanded solid Tropical Breeze or a Sanded Slingshot so they wouldn't be too "skiddish" for you???

I don't really have a problem with pearl balls. I actually use pearl balls more then solids usually. Its only on dry lanes when I have to make the move left I loose my carry and start leaving 10 pins and run across the carry down. I have a victory road pearl and the tropical heat hybrid works great for the medium and dry just on are crappy summer shot and the city and state tournaments when they put the shot down very everyones stuff to hook I struggle there. What would be the differences between the tropical breezes.

I would look into the tropical breeze soild. It is my go to ball on the burn and also short sport patterns. Its clean threw the front but doesnt over read the friction, it is a true step down from the heats. Which I also have the hybrid and purple and orange pearl.

The Tropical Breeze is NOTHING like the Tropical Heat. It is very tame...think Tropical Storm but smoother/less angular. I've attended a couple different Storm Demo Days this summer and as anyone who's attended these can tell you, the bowling center usually shortens up the oil to make the Percy Pussknucklers out there feel like they're getting the ball to move. Anyone with any hand has a hard time keeping everything but the Natural and Grenade on the right side of the headpin. Well, I picked up the Tropical Breeze and had to move about 15 boards right. I gotta tell you, this ball is nothing like any Storm ball you've ever thrown. It reminds me of the Brunswick urethane Avalanche, stronger than Urethane, but weaker than any resin ball.
Personally I'd go with the pink one because is smells just like birthday cake.
My 2 cents.

this is why i keep some older stuff around... have a storm flash point the is just awsome when the lanes a hooking a ton or just dry... or if the shot is outside, i can move right and go a bit straighter. i have a natural but its not some thing i can use game to game.. its to hit miss for me. i hate shooting 267 then 204! lol
also keep some stuff that has a bunch of games... use balls with the reactor cover stock with great results.

I would also voice some positive opinions for the solid breeze. its smooth and controlable. With a stroker it is very even, and with high very players the shape is very round and still even with someone with a rev rate over 500 the ball still didnt flare more than 2-3 inches. Much more controlable than the original tropical storms even with pin on pap layouts, the breeze having so little flare potential you dont have to max the ball out( 3 3/8) to get them to hit. With old school 3 piece urethane you had to drill the ball very strong to get it to not hit like a wet noodle.
