Ball for chameleon
« on: August 22, 2007, 03:34:51 PM »
My center is hosting a regional at the end of septemner. The pattern will be chameleon. I am a tweener 15.5 avg speed high track flare. Im looking for a storm ball that would do best on this pattern since I won a ball through a tournament I was going to pick one to setup for this pattern.

What kind of lane surface will this be on?  Fresh oil or when it's a bit broken down?

I would personally say it depends on how worn the surface is. In my experiences with Chameleon it's ranged from seriously hard to get hook to holy crap I'm hooking the whole right half the lane. I found my best success is with a stronger ball straight up between 5 and 10 (I used my Passion and sanded Pyro, Pyro got to the pocket but the carry wasn't as good).

I've seen both extremes on the Chameleon.  Aside from the surface itself, it all depends on who you're bowling against and what the weather is like that day how the shot will end up playing.  I had good luck rolling a Special Agent straight up 7-8 (shot a 268 doing that in practice one day!), and also throwing it with a small swing from 14 out to 10 once the shot got a bit broken down.  (I also had some very dry lanes one week when I had to prebowl on the Chameleon--the lanes had just been KILLED by a lot of bowling--and I was able to score very well hooking the crap out of my Spit Fire.  That was an exception to the rule though!)

The biggest key is really that the Chameleon is NEVER the same two games in a row.  Make sure you leave yourself plenty of options equipment-wise.  Try to bring at least two or even three medium to strong balls with a surface sanded around 1000 to 2000.

My arsenal im currently building would have a plastic spare ball, pin down troad pearl, flip flopping between special or secret agent, surefire and troad solid. any suggestions on drill patterns?

Are you intending for these balls to be used on PBA oil patterns, or house shots?  If you are going to be using them on tougher patterns like the PBA ones, you will have your best luck just going with a comfortable, predictable drill pattern.  Focus more on altering your ball reaction with surface.  You want the ball to not get squirty and jumpy when the oil starts transitioning.  Now, if you are bowling on house shots, that's a different story.

im thinking my goto balls on chameleon will be special or secret agent when fresh but troad solid or surefire for transition. I have my troad pearl for house shot, but I am only drilling 2 out of the ones listed for chameleon anything else will just be drilled to match my style and no particular pattern. Which would be better for chameleon secret or special agent?
