VG and VE...Initial Impressions
« on: November 30, 2009, 09:10:23 AM »
Well, after a huge drilling debacle on my new VE (see post in Drilling and Layouts on this forum); I finally got the chance today to throw my new VG and VE.  I feel like I have regressed as a bowler!  I've never been a guy who can hook the entire lane; but, I couldn't get either of these balls to move more than a board or 2!  I tried adjusting my release, slowing the ball down, speeding the ball up, even changing where I stood on the approach.  At one point, I was standing RIGHT of the middle dot, throwing right up the 5 board and only got the balls to move about 2 boards!  I could see both of them revving pretty well...they just never seemed to "catch" the lane and break towards the pocket.  Do I just chalk it up to the lane conditions or do I just suck?
This is the same house that I have averaged over 200 at for awhile now.  Today with these 2 balls, I shot a:  145, 166, 169!  At least I improved each game!

How do you stand 20 and throw it "right up 5"????  Your laydown point would be WELL left of 5 unless you drift a considerable amount to the right.

He said he was standing right of center dot. Kinda vague I guess. My opinion is either the lanes were not striped properly or not enough oil and the ball was quitting on the back.

Roger...

Well, I stand "right of center" dot, usually sliding 19 or 20 to start the night with my VG at one center I bowl at.

Got another chance to throw these balls again today.  I retract my previous post!  I actually never even pulled out the Energy...I was throwing the Gravity so well!  Again, just practice, but I shot a 191, 222, 218 and 266 today with the Virtual Gravity.  What a ball!  Even on a few shots that I laid down wrong or released wrong, it still broke back into the pocket.  Again, I apologize to the Storm guys for my initial impressions!  Now, if I could just pick up a 10 pin!

No knock on Storm... There would have to be severe lane condition issues to not get a VG to hook. Anyone who has thrown a VG consistantly would know it, too.

I wouldn't consider myself a cranker, by any means, and this ball still hooks a ton. So much, in fact, that it's not useful during one of my leagues with my release and ball speed.

Good to hear you gave it another shot!
