need advice for a drill on a jolt solid
« on: February 26, 2009, 09:56:25 AM »
I just received a free jolt solid with a 2 1/2 inch pin and right now the pin is at 2 o-clock and cg at 7 o-clock in relation to the fingers, with the pin being in line with the finger holes. I already have a jolt solid that has a 1 1/4 inch pin layed out 5 x 4 1/2 pin under ring no extra hole, an original hot rod with a 5 1/4 by 5 1/2 ping under ring and cg just on top and right of thumb, and a too hot drilled label(2 1/2 inch pin) pin up inbetween fingers, cg straight down. These are my 3 weakest balls right now and I was wondering what would be a good drill to put on my second jolt solid? My first jolt roles then kind of snaps, my hot rod is pretty smooth, and my too hot is inbetween the hot rod and jolt for reaction wise.

My stats are in my profile

Well, it looks like you have the reactions pretty much covered in the bag...so I'd use this as a test ball personally. Do something weird.

310*?

The 310 degree one is interesting though..hehe. The rico one might be an idea, but I track kind of high so probably not. Now I was thinking of doing something like the pin close to my axis and the cg close to my axis as well, like a 2 1/2 x 2 1/2, maybe a 2 x 2 with an extra hole straight over and down just a little bit. What do you think about me doing a 5 x 5 on the jolt, which is similar to what is on the hot rod?

5x5 might work, but then you may have trouble where you start duplicating reactions. I might suggest you take whichever of the 3 is older (I'm assuming the hot rod) and use that layout if you're going to duplicate a layout...that way, if you decide they're close together, at least you'll have the jolt (which, being newer, should hit harder).

The 2x2 is a great idea. I'd just throw it without the weight hole in practice first. Drill it with a crap-load of side weight and just see what it does, then put the weight hole after you're done having fun.

You could always go with something ludicrous like a 7x5, which would keep you away from the weight hole, but give you a negative pin. another one I've seen that I really like is this one: not sure what it's called, though.

The guy I saw throwing it has a ton of side turn, but the ball is a bomb to the pocket on the backend.

I might be tempted to go with a hook and stop layout...something that's going to almost intentionally rollout for you, to give you a totally fresh look.

Thanks for the ideas so far Why I was leaning more towards the 5 x 5 is because since my hot rod has a weaker pearl reactive cover it is naturally going to get slightly more lenght, now with the jolt since it has the accu-tread cover which is a lot stronger, then it should role just as smooth as the hot rod, but be a little more in the oil, espeically if I bowl on the cheetah with it, now if I do the 2 x 2 and role it on the cheetah do you think the 2 x 2 would work?

Yeah, on the cheetah, something weaker like that would do just fine. A 5x5 with the stronger cover might be a little bit too much ball on the cheetah depending on how you throw it.

Yeah, well I did throw my hot rod for a game on a broken down cheetah pattern and it roled real smooth, but it wasn't quite enough ball. So what I am going to do is talk to my driller about the 5x5 and 2x2 layout and see what he says, thanks for all your help
