Good ball below the Lucid
« on: October 17, 2012, 05:12:12 PM »
I  looking for a good fit below the Lucid that gets down the lane a little farther but had a strong backend that I can use after I have moved inside a little. I have a Infinite Theory that I had hoped would fit that spot but it lacks in backend on oil, has become a great control ball for me when the lanes breakdown ( which is good to have ). I also have a bandit that has a good backend but there is to much of a gap between the 2. Any suggestions?

I'd probably go with the Hyroad out of the road series balls.  That cover/core is time proven and is a little more versatile than the Crossroad or Fireroad.  If you need something a little stronger, the Modern Marvel or Marvel Pearl would be good options.

The Frantic is also a really good choice.  You seriously get much more performance from that ball than advertised.  I've seen people use that on almost all conditions with good results.

MOTIV Trident Odyssey
MOTIV Forge Fire

MOTIV Pride Solid

Medium-Light
MOTIV Venom Shock
MOTIV Tribal Fire

tommy is right. the frantic has the proven hy-road cover stock. not the mention the frantic is a tank and very versatile. between its large and powerful core with the proven hy road coverstock. it is a win win win. so what if it looks girly with its bright colors. i have two. one is laid out for 40-45 foot sport shot patterns and the other is laid out for ths and 37-41 foot patterns. it was all over tour when it came out which means it had to have some kind of success. shoot it even won pete his record. just saying

I was originally thinking about getting the Frantic but a couple of people in my League have them and they said that they don't hook that much and watching them throw them it seemed like they were correct. It could be that the driller drilled them up incorrectly but they were both using it as there ball to go to when the lanes dried out? So it scared me away from it because I was looking for a Fresh Med. Oil Ball. Does it handle oil OK in OOB, do you guys have yours drilled Pin up or Down and how strong?

Prmtme,

You are looking for a ball for the heavier stuff correct? A Frantic, FireRoad, CrossRoad, Fringe and all those other would be ball that everyone else is naming, are going to go 600 ft before they move. Your Lucid and Infinite will easily out hook these balls... in heavier oil. Also think about this, you have 2 big cored strong  asymms and youre going to replace them with a weaker cored pearl symmetrical? A critical will do you good, another Lucid w/polish and a weaker drilling would be a decent look, or I'd go no lower than a Modern Marvel or Defiant Edge. Other then that you're going to have the same problem all over again. I have a Crossroad and a Critical both laid out identical and the Critical is leaps and bounds stronger. With that said the Crossroad is the stronger of all these other weaker pearls.

depending on your pap. As long as the pin is over the right finger hole or to the right of the fingers, and your thumb is kicked out about 3.75 to 4.5 inches to the left of the imaginary rg. the ball should hook of the wall. not to mention get a balance hole placed on the P4 or P3 position, which should be almost on top of where the imaginary rg is located. Then the ball will hook its butt off

Exactly what Rightycomplex said.  By going with one of the Road balls or something weaker yet, you are going to have a MASSIVE gap.  I personally can fit at least 2 pieces between my Lucid and Fire Road.  I really think that you should reconsider.  IMO an IQ Tour, weaker drilled/tamed cover Lucid or Critical Theory, and maybe a couple other choices would accomplish what you want much better.  You're setting yourself up for disappointment if your Lucid is too early and you ball all the way down to say a FR, CR, or Frantic and watch it go a mile.  If you're still insistent on one of those, I would go with a pretty strong layout, say 50x4x30 to close the gap and be prepared to make cover adjustments.

The more I think about it, I really like the Edge in this situation too.  A slightly weaker layout than your Lucid could fit it nicely between that and your Bandit.  It is going to be longer and still give you more than enough backend.

In case you're curious, my arsenal from strongest to weakest is-
Lucid
IQ Tour
Critical Theory
Edge
Virtual Energy
Fringe
Fire Road
Rapid Fire
Mercury
Polar Ice

For a league night, I bring the Lucid, IQ Tour, VE, Fire Road, and a spare ball.  This allows me to make easy ball changes and covers everything except for dirt.  I'm just trying to hopefully show you how many balls can fit that spot in your arsenal.  Good luck with whatever you decide.

For me the Lucid is very strong and angular ( I havent been able to use it on house patterns) My benchmark ball is an IQ Tour which is considerably weaker (with the layouts I have on them) than the Lucid.  Underneath the IQ comes a victory road pearl with a similar layout.  The IQ Tour and the VR Pearl give me a nice 1-2 punch on the THS.

I'm sure the Lucid will come into play at some point, but for now it stays in the bag.
