Lower Grit for my Pyro
« on: November 08, 2006, 11:10:07 PM »
A buddy of mine gave me his Pyro...I had it plugged and drilled...its a great ball but I already have the Fired Up for Medium and a Black  Widow for Med-heavy...and the Pyro is much like my black widow and I was looking to taking the cover down to make it more of a Heavy oil ball...would that be a good option for it? Need some opinions and suggestions on what grit I should go with...thanks in advance, Joe

Hit it with green scotchbrite (600 grit) and you'll have a heavy oil monster...

Well, being this is a pearl particle...do not use any sandpapers....Try using some different scotch pads...this won't hurt the particle load, and will change the cover nicely...

Burgundy pad = 400
Green pad = 600
Grey pad = 800-900
White Pad = 1100

Start low and work back up to where you want...will also clean up the surface while doing so....do it that way, and you can't go wrong...can't hurt to try..

Funny, a similar situation happened to me. I went to a Randy Pedersen clinic and both him and the Storm rep (can't remember his name) looked at my "arsenal" and suggested more surface on my Pyro. They hit it with 800 abralon and it did the trick. It now has a much more arcing motion and works in pretty heavy oil. Plus..... with my higher ball speed it still works okay on breakdown.

The best of both worlds.

I had the same problem with my pryo, just had to much damn energy left when it got down the lane.  Started up early, i just couldnt believe how much it was still jumping on the dry even with the hard arc layout.  Took it down to 1000 arbralon, smoothed out the entire reaction.  So that would by my suggestion

Like most storm balls I have had, it was way too jumpy when I had one. I had to scuff it to knock a bit of the shine off. I used a 500 grit abralon pad but, I only used ot for like 5-10 seconds per side and used it very lightly just to knock some of the gloss off of the ball.
