Title: Lucid or Defiant Soul
Post by: bostonman on February 03, 2013, 08:55:49 AM
Just looking for opinions, my style is 14 MPH avg. 223, smooth style med. revs.,usually like to play a small swing shot stand 25 through 15 out to 8. I bowl on older wood lane and occassionally on synthetic for tournaments. Thanks for your remarks.

I have the lucid and plan om the getting the soul...im going to polish whichever doesnt match up with me! The lucid core is very controllable...for me i feel its kinda rolly...i have the defiant and the edge...i need something in between the two...aka the soul....plus i still use the rogue cell its closest cousin...so ill get it sooner or later..

Anyone else have both?

I have both.  The soul is stronger midlane for me so I use it more often on the fresh.  When they break down I move left and go with the lucid.

Our tweener staff tester has both balls.  He is speed dominant player with higher axis tilt.
He finds himself using the Soul the majority of the time with the excellent midlane read and backend punch.  The times when it looks to be the "right time" to step down to the Lucid when the Soul begins to labor a bit with flat 10s or 7s, he has to actually move right rather than left as the Lucid does not turn over that way for him.
That's on a 42 ft pattern and I believe the Lucid prefers shorter patterns in our experience for our players.  Perhaps if he adjusted the drilling, it might match up a little better for his game on this length pattern.

I haven't thrown a Soul, but the Lucid is very good for me on longer patterns. The only caveat I'd give is that it shines up incredibly quickly due to lane oil. Obviously, once that happens, it starts losing a bit of traction on the heavier stuff. As such, it can sometimes be difficult to stick with the Lucid for more than a game or two.
