« on: October 19, 2012, 10:59:36 AM »
Any of you guys have both or have compared one or the other with a friend's. I am just curious how diferent these two are. Some people i have talked to say these two are pretty similar. Your help would be greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I have drilled both. My TDP was drilled 70x4 1/2 x 40, pin was above ring finger. My Lucid is drilled 45 x 4 1/2 x 70, pin is below ring finger and MB is on my VAL. Threw both at two different houses. One house has AMF synthetics (clean snappy backends) the other house has Mendes synthetics (known for not very aggressive backends). My Lucid makes my TDP look like a spare ball. Even tried different surfaces on Taboo and never came close to the Lucid. Ended up drilling TDP for my wife as she likes to play more down and in and she likes TDP. Storm/Roto Grip products seem to match up with me better than anything else. This is my opinion so hope it helps.

What he said, the TDP is lazy downlane has nowhere near the same continuation when going away from the pocket.

I had an issue with my deep purple in the beginning. The ob surface burned up quickly even on the fresh  I see. I took it to 4000 and its a different ball.  Shot 6 250+ games out of the 12 I have thrown it.  I love it but it needs oil and you have to know when to put it away. Very strong ball that gets into a roll easily and quickly. Continuation is awesome and carry is one of the best I have ever owned.

It seems the deep purple taboo needs oil up front and has a continuous arc type ball motion compared to the lucid where it still early up front but angular down lane.

Too Be honest, My Deep Purple has gotten better as I have put games on it. It started real early and rolly even after I went to 4000, but as I have gotten 10-12 games on it it has become a better ball, It is a hard arc type motion but it recovers from anywhere for me. I absolutely love it, if you look at my first post when I got it, I said I didnt think I would like it, but it has completely changed my mind over the last few weeks. I did shoot 705 first night out in league after i changed the surface, then backed it up with a 693....both nights I fought the third game and should have shot 750+ if I would have put it away and balled down. Last night I shot 233, 231 and then put it away.
It hits and carries like a truck and it has garnered a lot of attention in my league the last few weeks because of the way it hits and its very consistent in its look. It never looks jumpy, it just looks strong....I do stress it needs oil in the front of the lane....if not it will burn up quickly.....

I am totally confused by two posts above....

1.  from Perfect approach pro shop.  Comparing the backend of a Lucid with a 45 degree drilling angle versus the Taboo Purple at 70 degrees?  Shouldn't any strong Mass bias ball have dramatically reduced backend with a 70 degree drilling angle?  Is it really a relevant comparison?

2.  The second thing I was confused about was the original poster asking, then telling about the reaction?  Maybe updated info from reading or watching in the interim?

LuckyLefty: I was just replying to the things I've been hearing about the two balls locally and to everyone that had been responding to my post.

Monster,

Makes sense!

REgards,

PS do my questions regarding drilling angles possibly bring up questions?
