Favorite Storm Pearl Particle
« on: April 07, 2012, 09:51:22 PM »
After responding to a different thread regarding the Depth Charge I was thinking what are my favorite Storm Pearl Particle balls?  In my opinion pearl particle bowling balls have a very unique roll and for about a 10 year period Storm was making the best on the market.

So the question is what is your favorite Storm (or RG I guess) Pearl Particle ball of all time?

My honorable mentions are the X-Factor Ace and the Shift.  The Ace is probably my second favorite of all time.  Very controllable hard arc that I could a find a line to the pocket in almost any shot other than bone dry or soup.  The shift was a reasonable X-Factor Ace replacement with a hair more length and a bit more backend reaction in dry.

My favorite Storm Pearl Particle by far though was the Core Power LE ball I picked up at the 2003 US Open.  This ball was the definition of smooth.  Early roll but it still retained energy to drive through the pins.  This was my favorite down-n-in ball of all time.

The X Factor Ace. Hands down. Guess that's why I have 3. Only used 1. lol. Very predictable ball for me. My ball speed is such that as long as there's some oil somewhere in the front half of the lane, I can make it work for me. Still a ball I keep in my bag.

For me the Core Power HRG was / is the most reliable of my particle pearls to get consistent carry . I prefer to keep it polished up for medium / lighter conditions that seem to be more common in my area.

I also have a Eraser Particle Pearl that I still throw sometimes when the lanes dry up. It does however, tend to leave a good deal of ten pins when compared to the HRG.

I've also been trying different surfaces on my Prodigy. I consider this ball a particle pearl due to the ETM in the cover. I'm still trying to get consistent results with this ball. The house that I bowl at really doesn't put down enough oil to make it effective for my style. It tends to burn up way too soon for my slower speed.

Second dimension by far!  Everyone is always in awe at the hook shape mine has...

Storm should do a particle pearl or particle hybrid "road" line/thunder line ball...
Those would sellsellsell...

Particle pearl could be called "rocky road," I want a urethane called the "dirt road" as well..just saying..

Don't throw strikes, throw BOLTS!

In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
*Now Testing* IQ Ruby, Renevant, another IQ Tour solid
Coming soon...???

I agree with stormdamage... the Ace was the best pearl particle, especially when it came to carrydown. I had two of them when they came out: one 16# and one 15#, both drilled pin over ring. Biggest regret was selling them in the hope for something better. The Depth Charge was a close second, a great control ball. In 2004-05 the Depth Charge and the Ace were my 1-2 punch!

I agree with tburky on the Shift. Not only a great particle pearl but probably one of the top 5 balls I've ever owned. Still carry it to tournaments.

I agree with the Shift.  I will be drilling up a Roto Grip RS-P soon, so I will see what that one is like.
