schlemer?
« on: December 06, 2005, 12:57:15 AM »
has anyone(general public) dealt with him.  i did at the hammond stop, and he seemed quite rude.  I had bowled the PTQ and was wondering if i could get a ball off of the truck or what the procedure was, so I asked him.  He could have answered in a better way but instead he said those balls are on the truck and thats were they are staying.  This was not during a match or even between matches so he was not busy....at all.  Not a good representation of Storm at least for me... a guy who drills almost every new Storm ball they come out with.

I met him last year at the Junior Gold Nationals in Indianapolis. He and Chris Johnson were conducting a seminar on drilling and layouts. He seemed to be a nice guy. He was happy to answer questions, during and after the seminar.

I'm sure that during tournaments there is alot of stress in his job, seeing as how he is responsible for getting his company's bowlers on the show. Storm has had a rough time as of late, and is finally starting to get back on TV with some consistency. I'm not sure when you bumped into him, but I know that I would hate to get in a company's representative way while he was trying to get his bowlers through an intense match, as almost all the matches this week were.

My friends cousin is Chris Johnson who finished 16th last week and he talks to him almost every week as we pretty much push Storm and Roto Grip up here in New Hampshire and Chris will send Jeff pretty much the new balls that come out.  The reps do have a job to do, but if you wait until they are free, they will talk to you and answer questions for you.

Kevin,
I tried talking to him at tour trials this last summer about the fired up and thought he was a jerk too...Maybe its something about region bowlers he doesn't like...

Im going to defend Schlem on this one since he doesnt read this site. Schlem is my ball rep as well as being one of my best friends. You have to understand what all of the ball reps go through each week, especially the majors. Everybody, and i mean everybody runs to the truck expecting to be able to get a ball. The inventory on the truck is limited so the staff gets first crack and I know for a fact that inventory was low during the Hammond stop. Im sure Chris didnt mean to come off as rude, but the majority of the people that come up to him just want something. After dealing with that week after week and year after year it gets old. Im sorry you got that impression of Chris because he really is a good representative of Storm. He does a lot of work for a lot of people, especially me

sorry to all...had to vent...it was not like i expected to get something off of the truck...i just wanted to know what the routine/procedure was...just trying to get my feet wet and being probably the BIGGEST Storm fan in NWI i had to ask him...being the storm rep.  I took a chance and got slapped down...i love his articles and hope he is not offended by this...but maybe he should think about the little guy sometimes...

Why don't you send this to him, he is trying to do his job under some very strenuous conditions. I am sure he wasn't brushing you off.

I'll be the first to admit that as a spectator in most PBA events since I've only bowled one region as an AM, if I were a ball rep I would most likely blow myself off as well.  However, I'm a fairly intelligent guy and when most people start spitting out stats in stuff in their question It would peak my interest.  I'm just saying there is a way of telling someone dont let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya in a nicer fashion tis all.  I dont ask a whole lot of people questions considering that I do a lot of research on bowling in general, and am some people's good resource for ball knowledge in general.  I ended up buying a fired up anyways, regardless of the blowoff.  My problem with storm equipment sometimes is longevity.  I asked in general if the reactor coverstock is longer lasting than the monsoon (the coverstock I had problems with).

All I'm saying is that when you are wearing your companies logo as any employee of that company in public, what you do reflects on your company.  I wasnt asking for a handout, wasnt asking for a towel even, I, the bowling consumer, was just looking for a little information.  Maybe I'm just through or maybe its my BS and  my MS in engineering showing.  I like doing my research on things.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this.  Storm pays him to represent the company and if he's in the bowling center, he's on the job.  If he doesn't like dealing with bowlers, and that means all current and potential customers, then he should find another job.  No excuse for that kind of behavior.  If I were treated in this manner, just as a matter of principle, I would never use their product again.

i never said he doesnt like dealing with bowlers. you are missing the point. Schlem is the first person to help people with questions and advice, but when dozens of people that he has never met before come up and ask for a bowling ball, well you should get the picture by now. i spend a lot of time with Chris. Like i said before he is my coach, my ball rep and one of my best friends. Ive seen this situation many times before, not only with him but with all of the ball reps. i watched a guy in the locker room in hammond go to another ball rep and basically demand 3-4 balls. he said he deserved them because he was bowling the PTQ. Then he proceeded to go out and bowl -200 for the block. The ball reps on tour have a job to do and a service to provide. Unfortunately it is for their staffs. The PBA has put so much financial pressure on the ball companies ( product registration ) that they can no longer be flexible with their inventory on the truck. It used to be that the reps could comp out a few balls and maybe even sell some during the week. the way things are now, bowling balls are at a premium and these things can no longer be done. im sorry if anybody has been affended by any of this but its the way it is on tour now. i will be the first to say that Schlem is a total proffessional that is extrememly knowledgable with what he does. you may have caught him in a bad mood or something like that also. believe me everybody at Storm appreciates all of our customers and loyal users.
