Question about Masters Pattern
« on: May 24, 2012, 10:39:23 PM »
I'm bowling a tourn in a few weeks on a Modified Masters Pattern.  What should I expect?  From what videos I've seen, they either play up the gutter or extremely tight.  A little about my stats:  I'm a mixed cranker/tweener.  Used to crank but have calmed down a lot.  About 450rpm and 18mph.  Can play any line but am most comfortable playing around 25 out to 5-10ish.  This week on cheetah, i hate it, was starting 26, over 20 with a breakpoint of 15 with my Big Hit and scored well.  What should I expect?  Any thoughts would be truly appreciated as I try to plan what to try.
Arsenal- Nano, Anarchy, VE, Polished VG, Gravity Shift, Tropical Heat, Big Hit

The word "Modified" means that it won't be the same as what you're seeing videos on.  You need to delete that stuff from your memory and go in with an open mind.  Prepare in practice the way you would if you didn't know what you were bowling on.

Russel is dead on here. Bring a arsenal that is diverse and keep your eyes open.

I know it won't play the sames as the masters but I wanted to get a feel for the traditional pattern before heading there.  It's going to be a six game seeding round followed by single game elimination once seeding is completed.  I will bring the whole arsenal, but what generally plays better on the Masters pattern?  Pearl, Solids, Weak, Strong?

There isn't anything that "normally" plays better...some guys throw pearls...some guys throw solids...strong...weak....everything gets used.  This is true on most patterns.  Again all that anyone giving you an opinion is going to do is give you something to put yourself in a box with.

If you show up to a tourney and have a voice that tells you where the shot is "supposed" to play when they are modifying it....you're opening the door for you to waste practice trying to make a ball/angle work that isn't there.
