MANIC ... Impressed!
« on: May 07, 2012, 12:34:17 PM »
Demo'd both Fringe and Manic yesterday (Next Level Bowling were at my house - Norm Duke & Brian Voss) and I was REALLY impressed by the Manic.  I threw a ball which hadn't been thrown (essentially new and OOB) and can easily see this ball as a THS winner!  Lanes weren't fresh, but I did move to a pair that was and the movement was fairly strong.  I was able to create nearly 7" of flare (little space between) and strong move from the outside.

Unfortunately the Fringe didn't make the same impression on me.  It's rather difficult when you think and know the Frantic will do the same and better.  Hit or miss with it.

If you've the opportunity, check out the MANIC ...

Why did you think that the Fringe did not do what you wanted it to and what was that? I personally like pearlized balls and wonder if that is your preference or solids instead.

Don't strictly go by Demo day.  I tried the Frantic on Demo day along with the Critical Theory, HiRoad and Nano Pearl.  Loved the Hi-Road and Theory.  Was not impressed with the Nano Pearl or Frantic.  Wife loved the Shooting Star and we ended up buying her one.  After we bought it, she couldn't get it to work like it did on Demo day.  Polished, sanded, nothing helped.  Could have been the conditions, the drill, who knows.  My driller loves the Frantic and keeps trying to get me to buy one.
14lb 15.5 mph at pins 325 Revs. Silver Coach, Ball Driller. In Bag:  Storm Pro-Motion, Hyroad X, Matchup, Code Red.

I'm not a Storm guy, but the Frantic is an amazing piece. My friend is on a ridiculous tear with the ball:

Averaging north of 240 when using the ball, 3 300's, and 4 800's since getting the ball.

I am not a fan of hybrids so I didn't buy the Frantic but have seen other people bowl well with it. I have kinda waited to see how the Fringe would do in a normal bowlers hand and that is why I asked about his view of that particular ball.

Funny you should mention this as I FAVOR pearl balls over solids.  This ball happened to perform better than my expectations.  Nothing more or less.

I tested this ball for Tamerbowling.com and I am a "normal" bowler. :-)
You can check out the videos and reviews with Digitrax here.  Unfortunately, as with the Frantic, I couldn't get Digitrax to work with the Fringe as the program doesn't pick up the yellow and orange colors.

I personally happen to prefer solids as they offer more control for me.  I don't need the extra flip from the stored energy of pearls.  I liked the Manic as well.  A lot easier to be in the pocket shot after shot than the Fringe for me.  I think more people will like the Fringe because they will like to see the flip this ball is capable of.
