Marvel Pearl & Phaze II

Haven't quite figured out exactly which characteristic(s) of these two balls are doing it, but they sure have been amazing for me dealing with some ridiculous wet/dry houses lately.

On paper I'm seeing low rg/med-high - high diff/mid level smooth clean covers.

I feel like if I run a lineup of Phaze II, Marvel Pearl, & Hy-Road Pearl, I would be hard pressed to encounter a condition I couldn't cover.

Phaze II and Marvel Pearl is what I bring for one of my leagues.  Those two balls cover just about everything that I encounter.

I'm not sure. I think the shape just works for me as they seem similar. Can anyone think of other Storm/RG pieces that shape similar?

Marvel Pearl and Phase 2 are the primary balls in my tournament bag.  Love the pearl on longer patterns like Scorpion.  Phase is great on anything with fresh back ends.  Have played it out on a Viper, and in at nationals on doubles and singles pattern last year. 

I round out my bag with a blue vibe, and just added high road nano. Not sure how it compliments my Phase, but gives me yet another look.

I would be curious how you work the Nano into play instead of the Phaze 2 at times and why the decision was made to do so.

Velocity core having more (RG lines) I forget the nomenclature for the term describing the fine veins and cut outs. Maybe denser as well and I'm not sure of the size.

And the covers, R2X and TX-16 might have the same base chemistry.

Yeah so I think I like the high diff symmetric cores wrapped in clean yet somewhat strong and smooth covers on the backend.

I never liked any if the Marvels except the pearl.  As for Phase 2 and HR nano, the look is a little different.  Phase stands up a little earlier and is much smoother off the break point.  Nano  is more angular.  Its all about carry .  I can get to the pocket just the same with either.  Still learning how yo make use of the differences.  One thing I did find with Phase is that it can be more useful playing out because of the ease in controlling the break point.

I think that control of the break point the Phaze 2 gives is definitely an asset of the piece that I enjoy. I remember in the past Luke describing the Rocketship as the weaker version. I had the Rocketship and I can somewhat see that. The Rocketship got a little too lazy for me once I put 20-30 games on it. I could/should have resurfaced it but ended up trading it for a No Rules Pearl.

Have you ever thrown the Hustle Ink or seen it rolled on the same pair as your Blue Vibe? I would be curious as to how close they are.

Also - all things considered equal, which ball would require more oil, Phaze II or Hy-Road Nano?

I think a hustle ink would be a decent alternative to a Vibe.  As for the more oil question, I have trouble answering in that way.  I know a lot of people like to rank their balls the way a golfer might rank clubs, but to me it doesnt really work that way.  I have seen conditions where my Marvel Pearl would be as strong as the Nano or the Phase 2.  I tend to look for the place on the lane that I want to play on a tourney pattern, then try to find a ball that gives me the best reaction in the pocket.  I think by most people measure, the Phase 2 and the Nano would be comparable in oil handling.  However, the Phase by being smoother off the break point allows me to often find something further right, even out to the gutter, whereas my Nano and Marvel pearl both are usually better options when I get deeper because of their angularity off the break point.  I wouldnt really know how to rank them in terms of oil handling.

Well said, arsenals should be based on shapes not oil handling capability.

I may be in the minority but I found the No Rules Exist to shape similar to the Phaze II and Hyroad Nano. I know it's an asymm but doesn't shape as angular as most asymms.
