tropical heat solid replacement
« on: June 26, 2013, 06:26:39 AM »
Just a quick question. What are bowling balls of similar strength to the tropical heat solid? Maybe shout (roto grip) or is the wrecker closer? And if the wrecker is closer, any layout recommendations would be appreciated. Drilled wrecker in February with an aggressive layout and hated it. 20 mph off hand, 540 revs, and high track.

Why replace renew.

Mine just keeps hooking smoothly and strongly.

RotoShooting Star is very similar.

I don't know what weight you use, but a quick search on EBay turned up this 16 lb. one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/STORM-TROPICAL-HEAT-INDIGO-VIOLET-bowling-ball-16-LB-NEW-UNDRILLED-IN-BOX-/300922111126?pt=Bowling&hash=item46105b0496

These internet sellers also have 16s:

http://www.bowlingindex.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=BI&Category_Code=SB&Product_Code=BL-STHBP
(I've bought from them several times; they have been trustworthy and reliable.)

Some more must still be hanging around in various places. Why not do some other searches?

One other side note:
I have a Trop. Heat Hybrid. I think there are much more of them around than the solid and with manipulation of the drilling and the surface (with either dull or polished) I think you can get very close to the solid's ball reaction.

The Tropical Heat is my go to piece for awhile now. It'll be long before I get rid of it, or replaced. It just keeps performing for the surface I bowl on.

Side note: One ball that is my all time favorite, and the Tropical Heat solid reminds me of it, is the Track Slash.

Because i always wanted the tropical heat solid. I was going to get one of those but i found out storm retired it and they are hard to find in 15. So i was hoping someone could recommend another ball similar to it. And i wanted all solid polished because it has a drastical difference for my game. I was hoping someone who has thrown both would give a comparison.

There is one other thought on this solid vs hybrid or pearl for the TH.
My friend and I both have the solid but he also just got a Lights Out. The LO, as you know, uses the R2S coverstock vs. the TH's Reactor. He noticed that, compared to the TH Hybrid, the Lights Out seems slightly earlier with less backend and more control vs. the TH's greater length and stronger and snappier backend. For most pearl/hybrids vs. solids (in the same ball) that is the exact same difference.

I think that unless you find a solid in 15 lb., it worth considering the LO, as viable alternative to the TH solid. Best of luck.

Thank you very much. I was only worried that the lights out would be a flippy piece. But if it acts as a "solid", a minor surface adjustment should be thr finishing touch.

Let me be careful about my phrasing: it is earlier and smoother than the Tropical Heat Hybrid. To what degree it is directly comparable to the Trop Heat Solid, I cannot guarantee.
