No more Storm
« on: September 13, 2005, 07:20:13 PM »
I'm not going to make a dumb statement and say I'll never drill another Storm, but let me just say if I do, it's gonna be a while.  Drilled a Diablo tonight, and it's yet another Storm ball in the loooong recent line of them I've drilled that is absolutely worthless.  It's one of those balls you can find the pocket with, but it doesn't hit worth anything, and doesn't pull up far enough to carry a 10.  It's either 10, or through the nose.  Sanded, polished, no weighthole, weighthole, nothing worked.  I bowl on two greatly different patterns, and it sucked on both of them.  I've had plenty of Storms that were great, but all their new stuff just plain doesn't work for me.  Haven't liked anything but the Hybrid since the Super Charge.  A list of balls I've drilled that didn't work for me:
X-Factor Ace, Friction, and Triple
Atomic Charge
Banshee
Flash Force
Fired Up
Second Hybrid

As you can see, that's quite a lot of balls to have go wrong with only finding one that reacts halfway well.  I don't have that problem with Brunswick.  Drilled a Smokin, Strike, and CZ Red Pin, and love all three of them.  I used to like every Storm I drilled, and now I don't know what happened.

Lol, I was looking for a reaction I didn't have.  Got the reaction, just no strikes.  Flat 10's, mixer 7's, stone 7's, 5-7's, etc.  I wish that was the case, Lefty.  I can't imagine not matching up with something at least at ONE of the houses.  One has heavy oil up front and screaming backends, the other one is drier and smoother.  Had a good line with the ball at both houses, something I don't find much.  However, there was just nothing.  Last game of my first set, had 5 10's and a stone 7 for a clean 194.  First game of my second set, 5-7, 10's, mixer 7's, everything.  Shot 564 my first set, and 173 the first game of my second set.  Got my CZ out for the second game, 236.  Last game I was throwing the ball badly, so I ended up shooting 564 again, but the CZ reacted and hit so much better.  It rolls back up and through the pocket, it doesn't hook/stop like the Diablo did.  I was gonna sand the Diablo back up, but it hit like crap either way.  Love my Hybrid and both Super Charges I had too, and I still have my Hot Wire around.  Don't know, just don't know.

Ham,

Are you sure the Diablo isn't burning up a bit compared to your CZ red? I have a Hotwire that I love and a Flash Force that is more condition specific. My FF will burn up pretty quick if I don't have a decent amount of oil in the heads, even heavily shined. Just my 2 cents.

Positive.  Like I said, one of the houses I bowl at has HEAVY oil for at least the first 30 feet and then screaming backends.  The ball just glides forever and then rips back.  There are guys that get snap out of plastic there.  Nothing but flat stuff.  It reacted the same way sanded as it did highly polished, flat, flat, flat.  Move right, it's through the nose.  Pick up the CZ, gets about the same length, but really rolls back up.  My Smokin rolls back up, my Strike rolls back up, my Hybrid rolls back up, my Hot Wire rolls back up, etc.  If anything, my Strike should be burning up, but it goes nuts there.

Ham-on-rye, I had sort of the same deal with Storm.  Last Storm bill I drilled was a Green Bolt, years ago.  Every ball I tried (Wrath, El Nino, lots of others) just didn't match up with me or my conditions.

Lefty, yeah, it's pretty snappy, but my OTHER shot is a medium oil very smooth shot.  That was the condition I had in mind when I drilled the ball.  Yeah, it starts revving and rolls a lot better on this shot, and I can play where I want to with it, but it just has nothing at the pocket.  Rolls nice, nice length, strong arcing backend, just nothing when it gets there.  Lol, I'm not meaning to say it doesn't roll right, I really like how it rolls.  It reacts exactly like I hoped it would.  I just can't leave flat 10's, and mixer 7's all night.  It doesn't drive when it starts moving, it deflects.  I weighed it out, it's about 15 lbs even.  My 14lb 10oz Triple X hits harder.  The Diablo reacts a LOT like the Brunswick Nemesis, the only difference is that the Nemesis really hits when it gets there.  I don't know if I can explain it better.  I've seen enough and drilled enough to know it's not the lanes and it's not me.  It hit decent at the house with the sharp backends, but after a game, it was either split or a 9 count the rest of the way.

Just remember, there are no bad bowling balls, only bad ball reactions.
