Virtual Gravity Help?
« on: December 27, 2008, 01:11:53 AM »
Hey guys, I bought a Virtual Gravity about two weeks ago, and it is indeed hook in a box.  I laid mine out with the number two drilling, which is a 4 x 4 and a 2" pin buffer.  I've had the opportunity to throw it several times, but I haven't really gotten the reaction I wanted out of it.  Its still at OOB, and I find that it just wants to start rolling right off my hand.  Despite the fact that it rolls so early, it still has great carry.  My big problem is the fact that it is indeed so early.  I wanted something I could use on longer sport shots, and the longer pro patterns such as the Scorpion and the Shark.  Well I had the chance to use it on a 42' sport shot, and it had a tendency to start rolling right off my hand.  Yes I wanted a aggressive piece, but this seems to roll too early for my liking.  I was thinking about applying some polish to get some length out of the ball, but wanted to see if you guys had any other suggestions.

I would try polishing it. Wouldn't hurt, and will definitly give it more length

I used some Valentino's Snake Oil on a Virtual Gravity with the pin above the ring finger and I did get some more length but the ball was very strong off the break point. I like the one two combination of a VG with pin high and Snake oil and a pin low with 1000 Ablaron by hand and then a Hyroad with 2000 Ablaron,Resurrection with spinner and then Remedy RX by hand.  I have a two speed spinner, but Ablaron by hand works very well.

What made you decide to "STACK-IT" if the goal was to use it for challenging long conditions & 2 of the longer PBA patterns? That layout is encouraging the ball to rev up and the nature of the VG is muscular to say the least.

Eh just went with the recommended layout... I wanted to make sure it was strong enough, and it certainly is, if this polish doesn't work out for me, what drilling would you suggest I use?

My first VIRTUAL was pin above and to the LEFT of the middle finger, with CG about in grip center and key just to the right of my thumb hole. (Almost a 6 inch pin for me.) Decided on this after speaking with Storm folks. Ball is so strong that this normally weak drilling is perfect for the VIRTUAL. I did get a second one and just moved the pin over to above the ring finger with same angle of drilling. I NEED a puddle to throw this one.

4x4 is way too strong for the VIRTUAL unless you are major speed dominant or bowl on floods most of the time.  Don't think polish will do much for you but worth a try.  If it doesn't help enough plug it and try a weaker drilling.

You can go back and read my original review and get more info if you want.

think you should look into a shift the balls too much for how u set it up and what you want it for

Stupid 7 - I would have done a 5x3 or 6x4 layout. The ball is already plenty strong as you know now.

Speaking of layouts.

what is a good way to layout a ball where the PIN ,CG,MB is all in a straight line?

I'm not the brightest when it comes to layouts but no matter what i thinking of trying the Pin and CG is going to be the same distance to my pap..this is one of them cases where i wished i had a camera and a scanner to put a pic on here. Its a 3-3.5 pin

PIN

CG

MB

Base everything off of your Positive Axis Point.

CG doesn't really matter on an asymmetrical ball.  You should be worried about the placement of the pin and the mass bias.  Also, so what if the pin and CG or pin and MB are the same distance from your PAP?  There's nothing wrong with that.  It all depends on what kind of reaction you want.

I would add a little polish to the ball as this ball is really too strong out of box and with the polish it stores up the energy that it needs to finish
