MISSION v VIRTUAL GRAVITY
« on: February 05, 2010, 09:48:35 AM »
I am going to punch up my mission today. Read a lots about the ball, but noone has compared it to the VG.

I was thinking of setting the Mission up just like my VG, 4.5 x 5 pin up. Will I get a different look?

Thanks

So tell me why you think the Mission is stronger then the VG again?

cover on vg 4000 with a little polish. cover on mission oob.

The Mission is very strong off the spot. After about twenty games it seems to me to have TONS of recovery and just keeps coming from the outside. If you tuck it in the oil it becomes skid/snappy. I have found that it does not hold line on an inside miss except in the heaviest of oil BUT will come back from just about anywhere. So I am continually moving left and opening up the lanes more and more.

I think it is much stronger than the VG on THS considering its continuation on the back. That said, on a true flood the VG will roll up better due to its solid cover.

So is the Mission a cosmetic pearl or a performance pearl?

Until someone puts both balls at the same finish with the same/similar  drilling then your comparisons don''t mean anything. I have thrown both at the "mission''s" finish so I know the difference...

Nor Cal,

I understand your point. I have not tried the VG at 2000. My VG is at 4000 with a light polish. The polish makes the VG more angular for me on the back end.

On our THS, OOB, the Mission, with no polish, covers more boards (at least 4 boards stronger) and is more angular (makes a harder move off of the dry)than my VG. I still hesitate to say this is definitive, because my VG has over 100 games on it now, and the Mission has less than 5. However, I am comfortable saying that at least on a THS, the Mission is stronger than my VG. Taking my VG to 2000 no polish would surely lead to the VG burning out on our THS. For this reason, I think that the comparison, VG 4000 polish, Mission 2000 (oob), is really the closest way to compare the two balls.

Now, tell us all what you have found and your thoughts about the two balls.

CC, aren't the drillings listed already? 4.5 x 4 (Mission) and 4.5 x 5 (Virtual Gravity)

The cg is closer to 5 on both balls and the pin is actually closer to 4 than 4.5. Because of my high track, I adjusted both balls to put the pin higher above my ring finger--why? just seems to roll better for me.  After drilling, I never bother to go back and check the exact measurements, as most of the time, its not an issue, and I know this drilling will work for me.

I hope to get some practice in on a fresh sport shot Thursday. If I do, I may take some video of both balls.

I am not bashing either, as I am scoring better with the VG than anything else in my bag right now.

I don''t own a mission but threw one at a demo. I was impressed with it but during the demo they were comparing the mission with the VG. But of course with each ball''s at it''s respective box finish. We asked the rep there what happened with the mission if you put it at 4000, all he said "it went longer".  "Clovismaul" and I  talked about it and we decided to put my VG at the same finish as the mission. Mind you my VG is drilled weaker then the mission. The VG read the mids alot better then the mission on a THS. Of course the cover on the VG is a solid and the mission is a pearl!

You cannot compare bowling balls at opposite surfaces! It''s like saying, brand A tires suck on ice while brand b''s studded tires are better. They have different surfaces!

I''m not saying the mission is a bad ball at all. In fact it''s rather good. But to compare it to another ball at a completely different surface, then calling it weaker then the mission isn''t a good comparison job.
I have a Gravity Shift that I did the same finish on as the mission to kinda compare pearl to pearl. Only issue is the layout on my Gravity Shift is alot stronger with a VAL layout on it. It needs more oil then what I threw it on last night...
