New ball asymmetrical vs symmetrical
« on: July 24, 2018, 08:59:05 PM »
Between now and the fall I’ll be buying a new ball. With the 2 balls I currently have in my arsenal, what type of balls make sense for me to get an asymmetrical pearl/solid or symmetrical pearl/solid? Or, another Hybrid, asymmetrical or symmetrical.
Current Arsenal: Storm Super Nova, Storm Absolute, 900 Global Zen Master, Storm Summit, Storm Journey, and Storm Punch Out

Do you only bowl on house shots or looking to get into sport shot tournaments? What do you see or not see out of your currents balls? Essentially, what void are you looking to fill?

Happen to know a ballpark of your stats (speed, revs, tilt, axis rotation)?
Current Rotation:
PhysiX
Code X
Code Black
Axiom Pearl
Phaze III
Trend
IQ Tour

I do not have exact numbers as far as axis tilt and rotation.  According to the graphics on the Storm MatchMaker site, my axis tilt appears to be <50°; axis rotation appears to be <20°; Revs appear to be "Average-276-400 rpm)".  Ball speed from the bowling center is around 14 rpm. I bowl mostly on house shots. For the upcoming season I'll be bowling at a different house and I've been told that there is a high volume of oil on league nights.  I've only bowled at this house during open bowling. I do plan on entering some sport shot tournaments.

I'm looking to fill the void between my HyperCell Fused and the Punch Out. Or, does it make more sense for a ball to use on the fresh and then go to the HyperCell Fused as the lanes transition?

Others can speak to the best strategy but just looking at your two main balls they are both fairly long and strong on the backend.  You might think of getting yourself a smoother earlier solid with a low RG between the two in strength.  Something like an IQ Tour or Venom Shock.  Two legendary benchmark balls always quick to recommend (have both).

Donuts had a good response. Another one I think might complement your lineup and shape differently would be a Phaze II.

With that said. Keep an eye on the HP3 line from Roto Grip. A Nano Hybrid or Pearl with that Ikon core would also work for this spot in my opinion.

Thanks for the responses. I will take a closer look at the balls mentioned. I was looking at either the Hyroad Nano or the Show Off. However, if I unsterstand correctly the RG of those balls may be too high. They are around 2.55 or so.  Is the Code X too strong of a ball. Or could it be the ball to use on the fresh and then go to the HCF.  Then perhaps for a fourth ball down the road, something like the Soniq to fit in between the HCF and Punch Out.

Good luck.  If do go the low RG solid route have to ask yourself do you want to get a stronger ball that can handle lots of oil with a bigger diff like say an Idol (people rave about that ball) or the aforementioned Phaze 2 (and Code X) or do you want something can handle medium heavy to medium oil house shot like the balls I mentioned.  Depends on I guess your style and if you think the balls you already have have house shot covered and if you plan on only using three balls and doing tournaments where the volume can be more than house shot.  Honestly about the RG, going by what is recommended but personally in general I tend to throw higher sets especially on house shot with my 2 piece high RG stuff as it matches up better with my style and does a better job of preventing splits.  A good PSO to help you make your ball choices count is invaluable as going the ball whore route and see what sticks to the wall is a lot more work and expense.  Just beware of the trying to use a Sure Lock on house shot trap.  In my experience people usually are using way too strong of bowling balls for too long than too weak.  For my league I quit worrying about equipment as it was a distraction (have 40+ balls and I can suck with all of them) and simply brought my Hy-Road OG and my Ogre urethane spare ball and my average went up significantly.  It was a first shift doubles league though so I didn't see that extreme of transition.

I just sanded my HCF to 3000. Will test it this weekend to how earlier it will read the lanes.  Then I will see how it reacts when league starts in month on the fresh oil. Again, pretty heavy oil at this house from what I’ve been told.
