Most confusing shape to fill
« on: July 29, 2018, 12:17:27 PM »
I've hunted for this piece for a season now and have yet to find it. Our league shot plays to where a Phaze II has too much cover to push downlane with enough energy and the Marvel Pearl is too soft on the backend.

Maybe polish the Phaze II? The Code Black is a little too clean with R2S Pearl. Since I personally can't find something in the current line for Stormand RG, here's my hopes for some September releases.

HP3 release - Idol core with a pearl or hybrid cover that's weaker than TX-16 and faster response than R2X.

Master release - Phaze II core with similar cover as described above.

Thunder release - R2S Solid with a new core that gets it moving on the backend.

Sorta just thinking out loud but open discussion to my solution or these September release hopes?

Well, if I was going to give you a non Global response, I'd say throw some surface on the Code Black, but I'm not going that way. Lol

From what I've seen, an Eon would fit the bill. Enough response to get it around the corner, enough cover to make it not squirty.

To me that's where the No Rules Pearl fit.

Your descriptions for the Marvel Pearl and Code Black are the exact reasons why I've never really considered them for myself.

Like Doom said, if you look outside of Storm/RG, the Eon could be a possibility. In the off chance you think the cover could be a little too strong I'd look at the Tactical Ops. I feel the S72 is definitely up from R2S and down from the Phase 2 cover.

In the Brunswick family it's where the Creed or Creed Revelation come in along with the Cutting Edge Hybrid. Personally I have my Creed filling that spot in my bag

For me it's a 900g dream, or HB, even a NRP would do the trick, or intense fire...

Best thing I did was try 900g again...
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
*Now Testing* IQ Ruby, Renevant, another IQ Tour solid
Coming soon...???

I like the hyroad nano as a compliment to the Phase 2 and Marvel pearl.  Better continuation than either when I move in to more oil on medium length patterns.

I feel the Ops series and Code series are very close motion wise. If you went Tactical, I'd touch it with some surface.

Good info here guys! I appreciate the responses, even the Global ones haha.

Surface on the Code Black would be interesting. I've never put surface on R2S Pearl before.

I should mess with the NRP again for there. It's at 2k for sport shot at the moment so forces me deep from the start, but I could bring it up to 4k and see what I get.

Hy-Road Nano intrigues me. I guess I've been gun shy because of the cover. I was assuming I would run into a similar situation getting a soft backend and some downlane push issues.

I have the same issue with the Phaze 2 and the Marvel Pearl as you have mentioned. I know it’s not in the current line, but this is when I bring the RG Hectic out of the bag. May be weaker than what you might be looking for. Pushes further down than the Marvel Pearl and have a great arc to the pocket. When it gets tricky during tournaments, I find myself using the Hectic more than a Pitch Black.

Aptly named, the reaction I have with my pin-up Hectic is very hard to explain. I’m sure others have tried to describe it, but I find it very clean up the front and then very angular yet smooth (<- I know, sounds confusing). To put it in another way, I tried shooting 10 pins with my Hectic and it takes a sharp turn at the end and I have the worst 10 pin conversion rate because it stores all the energy in the back. I always use my Mix for spares but I have much more confidence shooting the 10 pin with a Marvel Pearl or Phaze 2 than a Hectic.

When I look at your prospect rotation for next season, it plays like Storms greatest hits. It’s very safe and conservative. Maybe what you need is a fun ball!

Sounds like something has changed with your league conditions.

Last two fun balls I tried were the Haywire and Code Red. Didn't like either of them.

Lanes were refinished and backends are playing slicker now.

I agree on both. The Code Black to me felt like a Marvel Pearl with tipping power. Love the MP and Code Black more with surface. Also had the opportunity to throw an Eon. I really liked how it rolled and would highly recommend giving that a look if the Code Black doesn't work out. To me, the Tactical Ops would be a little too weak for what you described.

The boomy thunder line solid you mentioned is what the Rocketship was. I know that ball wasn't very popular, but I'm a fan. Also, have you decided the Code X is out of the question? That one will not grab the oil as hard and you could alwayd tune it to fit better.

Yeah, I'm not seeing a real clean fit with the options from Storm and Roto Grip.

I think you might like the Rhodman Pearl for that slot. Logix as well, maybe the Ultra Heat. Affinity and the Kinetic balls (disregarding the Ruby) might be a shade too weak. I know nothing about the Saber Pearl.

Lethal Paranoia would be pretty nice too if you're looking for a bit more on the back-end compared to others in that slot.

The Tenacity has been pretty well-received from what I've gathered. Creed Revelation could be close. Radical has the Katana and Katana Slash for the upper-end of the spectrum.

If that shape is something you need I would go for one out there on the market now rather than wait and see if Storm releases it. And if they do release it gamble on it doing what it actually should.

In the "old" days we would say you have to learn to adapt.   In other words, trying filling in those "gaps" by adjustments using physical skill.

Oops, forgot, physical skill is so outdated now.  The game today is buy more balls.
