I'm getting a pyro this week. what would be a good layout for medium heavy to heavy 40ft pattern? stripped backend at times & unstripped sometimes

i'm a high speed/ low rev stroker

Without PAP...? And it depends on ball's specs (pin distance, top weight).
I'd basically suggest pin under ring for an early read, and about 4 - 4 1/2" from your PAP. Another option - without any regards to your PAP - is a label leverage drilling: CG in palm, and the pin placed next to your ring finger, depending on pin length. Has very good mid lane read, a tamed back end, and is easy to control on a wide variety of lane conditions. With high speed/low revs this might be a very good option for you on oily shots and clean back ends.

sorry. i'll get my pap measured tomorrow. what's the preferred pin distance or is it pin lenght? both of my balls are 15 lbs w/ 3" pin & around 3oz. top weight

With a 3" pin ball, I'd give the label leverage drilling a try. I made very good experience with it on a sanded TPC Player. The ball won't cover lots of boards, but still hit hard and a wide range of conditions. Nevertheless, let your ball driller watch you play, have your PAP measured and ask the pro shop owner what he'd recommend on the Pyro for you. Seeing someone bowl or at least having a reference ball with a track is a good basis to start with when setting up a new ball. Good luck!

looking at your profile, it's the most complete & thorough profile i have ever read here on Br.com. excellent work

the houses i'm playing are very much identical to your house # 1 & #4. both are pro anvil lanes though. i played better on house#1 ave. around 189 in leagues & struggling a bit on the 2nd house i'm playing, shorter pattern 35 to 38 max w/ unpredictable backend. 180 ave. there

our line in which we bowl on are somewhat the same. as i'm leaning more on lineA vs. LineB. i'm most consistent playing straight-up & let the ball do it's thing naturally. I just learned last night, that sometimes you have to slow your speed down to get your ball to react properly.

high game also at 255
3 game high series: 670 (The One, house #1)
4 games series: 913 (Szone, house #1)
all leagues, june '06

my ave. a year ago was 156

just beginning to learn the technical aspects of the game. learned a lot from the internet, especially here at B.R.

. Although I must admit that I am one of those thorough souls that soemtimes get caught in detail. Therefore, the profile might be a bit too extensive, but one never knows... I like to supply as much info as possible, as well as in my reviews. I suppose they belong to the longest around on BR.com. This might not be the best (even annoy some souls), but IMHO better than a "ball hooks a lot, hits like a truck, I like it" review which does not deserve this title.

It is good to stay flexible with the game. I also get easily caught in the "play 3rd arrow and stick with it" trap. On a truly oily shot, this creates not enough entry angle and therefore occasional high pocket entries. So it is always important to watch what the ball does and how pins fall, as well as observe how it changes over time. It sounds as if you are on the right way. And it is true: the big hook does not mean success. It is the wood that goes down - and most of the time in the long run.
