Title: Myth or Fact
Post by: bragbowlin on April 10, 2007, 04:00:57 PM
That storm balls get torn up easily by ball returns or just prone to all types of damage?

sounds like a myth to me.  I've had lots of Storm balls and they've all held up very well.

Myth. Only thing that happened some time ago were core/filler/coverstock separations on the first Paradigm batch and cracking covers, but that has nothing to do with damage-likeliness. Even though I overhear rumors from Storm players around here that the newer coverstocks (Reactor) seem to to lose power much easier than the earlier generations, but this can also be a maintenance problem.

Myth:::
Original paradigm lasted 10 games :-(

My second batch paradigm has lasted 300 games plus and still going strong.
(and smelling strong)

I had a fear factor and a shock trauma no problems with damage from lane equipment both balls had 3 to 400 games each on them.

Some balls pick up more gunk than others.  It varies from brand to brand, and even two of the same ball will be different.  I had a Track Triple Threat that I couldn't keep clean for nothin'.  Same for a buddy's Blueberry Buzzsaw.  Every shot there was more stuff on the ball.

My initial Special Agent was probably over 300 games when used it at USBC. Key is to clean them (I just use rubbing alcohol) and use your Abralon pads to keep the cover how you want it.

My SA was rolling around the pit area for five minutes because some pins were blocking it and it returned unscathed.

Myth...ball returns don't discriminate...

Check out my profile and click on the link. Of those balls in the pic about one third are Storm and they've held up as well or better than other brands. Most of all they seem to retain their reaction characteristics forever (never had one "die" on me, but I clean them after every use, even if it's only one game).

I have a Lightning Flash (old ball I know), that got stuck inside the lift of the ball return.  It melted 2 extrememly large gouges into my ball.  The baowling alley wouldn't replace the ball, because I didn't buy it in the house pro shop.  They did repair it though... nothing quite as the same as a bowling ball with 2 hugh clear plugs covering a 5 inch strip of the ball.  That ball still works like a champ though.
