Hi all, in your opinion, is the Hyroad a stronger ball then the 2nd Dimension with the same drilling ? Thanks !

This is a tough comparison for me.  The overall hook potential at the same surface is very similar (especially on a THS), they just go about it in different ways.  Some people locally have both balls and on certain conditions one will outhook the other slightly and vise versa.  These have been my favorite pieces to use all summer.

The Hy-Road for me has a tendency to read the lane earlier and be a bit smoother in the back.  That being said, i have learned on my house shot that as soon as i start having trouble getting the corners out with the hy-road, rather than move in and circle the lane a bit more i switch directly to the 2D and the ball pushes more with a bit more angle on the back.  On flatter patterns the differences are more noticeable.

Is there room for both pieces?  Very much so, BUT in my opinion don't expect to see a drastic difference in reaction on a walled up shot if layed out the same...just enough to make a difference tho!

I'm actually curious to hear what others have to say about this myself...hope this helped.

Britton,

Do you have the same layout on both balls?

I have both but totally different layouts. I have the hyroad pin down below the ring and my 2D is pin up I think more stacked leverage (got this ball used from someone) but I like that I can circle the lane more with it like Britton said. I'm gonna drill another hyroad soon pin up cause the other hyroad is way too rolly for me.  Hopefully this is somewhat helpful...

Nor, do you used your Hyroad first then follow by the 2nd Dimension once the Hyroad is reacting too early ?

well cause of the layout the hyroad is too strong for a THS I have been using it at my PBAX league. My 2D is fine on a fresh shot right now. I'm gonna take another hyroad and probably do a 4.5x4.5 layout (from my PAP pin out. It needs more length for my liking.
With the 2D like Britton says you can circle the lane.

If you compare a box finish Hy-Road with a box finish 2nd D. both with 4.5x4 layouts (I have both of mine at that layout) you will get virtually the same lane coverage on a THS.  If you watch the ball roll the Hy-Road will be smoother due to the hybrid R2S while the 2nd will be a bit snappier (I don't see quite the length difference others have referenced).  I changed the surface on both - Hy-Road is at 4000 and 2nd D. is at 2000 so they give me almost identical looks but I use them on different patterns.

Since it says in your signature that you already have a Hy-Road I am assuming you are looking whether to consider adding a 2nd D.  On a house shot I would drill the 2nd D. to tip a bit more and use it when the shot requires more angle.  As always don't be afraid to alter the surface to get different roll... at this point I consider box finish manufacturers suggestion and/or shelf appeal.

The balls i describe are drilled slightly different, but i have compared them both with the same layout.  I currently have my favorite hyroad at 4.5 pin to pap, pin above fingers.  My favorite 2d is also 4.5 pin to pap but is pin below fingers...so the only difference is the pin to midline difference.
