Storm Victory Road Review
« on: February 07, 2011, 11:13:21 PM »
Layout:
 80 x 5 x 50
 no hole

With this ball I was looking for something to use when the lanes break  down.  This is one of my favorite layouts for this situation, it allows  me to keep the ball on line longer without a a huge skid/flip motion.  I tested this ball on the Kegel Middle Road pattern.  On the fresh this ball still was quite angular of the end of the pattern but not so much that I could use it.  After bowling for a while on the same pair I really saw where this ball shines.  Once the lanes started to break down I was able to move left on the approach and float the ball to the breakpoint with ease.  It still had plenty of pop in the back allowing me to open the lanes up.  This ball hits like a truck!

This ball fills a big gap in my equipment however it is definitely  stronger than I thought it was going to be.  The ball motion reminds me  of a smoother version of the Reign due to the fact that it reads the  midlanes better creating a more controlled motion. The Victory Road is a  great compliment to my Marvel and Theory.  With a stronger layout this  could also be used a benchmark ball for rev dominate players.   rev/speed matched players will find this useful when the lanes  transition.  Speed dominate players will need some friction or a surface  change due to the extremely clean cover.  Another great release by Storm!

Jimmy was spot on with this ball. Threw my Victory Road in league for the first time tonight and WOW, amazing ball! I needed something that I could move outside with without burning up in the dry or skidding past the break point in my house and this ball more than fits the bill. I had my pro shop put a 5 x 5 drilling on it which puts the pin above my bridge to give me a nice true roll with great backend and continuation. This ball recovered from anywhere and hit a ton. Light and high hits carried like crazy too. This ball glides through the fronts as to be expected with the pearl cover, but picks up a tad in the midlane and moves hard on the backend with great continuation. Its like having the backend of the Reign, but with the continuation and control of a Hy-Road. My beloved Mission was burning up too much and not finishing strong enough and this ball was outhooking it by a lot. I think I'm just going to skip my usual Mission or Virtual Energy start to league and just start out with the Victory Road from now and ride with it all three games.

Jimmy, what ball do you find is a great step down from this ball? I would imagine a Tropical Heat Pearl or Dark Star would be a good way to go, and was even thinking of a Nomad Pearl, but that might be too strong.

The Tropical Heat is a great ball to step down to.  I am more fond of the hybrid than the reactive due to the slightly smoother motion.  The reactive was VERY angular for me.  The Nomad would probably be too simliar even though the Nomad is smoother.  A 2Fast or Dark Star would be your other options, but I would go with the Heat.

Thanks Jimmy! I'm suprised the Nomad Pearl is so strong, but I must say my Nomad Solid is wayyy stronger than I thought it would be and can be quite the beast at times. My wife has the Tropical Heat Hybrid and it is a great ball for her throughout the entire lane. I've always been keen on trying one, and for the price I can't go wrong. I heard the 2Fast is a lot of ball as well, so I haven't considered it. I like what I see out of the Dark Star and of course the Heat Hybrid. I saw you are making Storm vids now too, when do you think they will be up?
