Jolt Pearl
« on: April 05, 2011, 06:13:47 PM »
Which cover is stronger, Reactor or ACCU-Tread Pearl? Looking for a ball to go under my Onyx Vibe and above my Natural. Have a chance to get a Jolt Pearl, drilled 5" pin to PAP, pin over. I just joined a league that dries out fast. Started on 23 with my Onyx Vibe tonight and ended up on 40 by the end of the third game, and I'm just not comfortable swinging the whole lane. Does anyone like the Jolt Pearl?

I've thrown balls with both, an Eraser PBT and X-Factor with Accu-Tread, and a Fired Up with Reactor.

The core's on all three of the balls were different so I think that makes big difference in reaction. From my observation, the Accu-Tread was slightly less than the Reactor as a coverstock. The closest two in comparison were the Eraser and the Fired Up. I would say my Fired Up was more skid-hard snap, while the reaction on the Eraser was a bit less snap on the backend. They were both drilled the same.

Now, I've never owned a Jolt, but I've heard many good things about the entire line of Jolt's and I believe it would fit between the balls mentioned, but it would be a tight squeeze. Maybe talk to your pro-shop guy and go with a less aggressive drilling than your Onyx Vibe.

The Onyx Vibe is sneaky strong. Almost as strong as my Infinite Theory. Definitely best for higher mediums than the med/light it was billed for.

The JP should be a good choice for your needs. Accu-Tread is not a weak coverstock (I'd compare it with Brunswick's PK18  pearl), but it reacts less spontaneaous to friction than 1st generation Reactor. Coupled with the low diff. core of the Jolt family (actually, it is the RAD core without the disc inside), you get a smooth ball that should work well on straight outside lines, and be a true step up from the Natural and a step down from the OV. I'd say that the JP should handle similar conditions like a Tropical Storm, but react smoother and earlier overall, and therefore be easier to control.
