I was at a thrift store and saw a Storm Tropical Storm. The storm symbol cg? Is on top of the pin. I dont mean above it. I mean stamped riht on top of the pin. What would this do to the layout options?

see that mostly in the lighter weights 10-11 lbs. You can draw a line from the pin thru the cg and that is the way the core is laying. What you discribed if you sit the ball with the pin/cg on top the core is sitting straight down if that makes any sence! :D

Okay that makes sense but it is a 15 lb ball.

It is my understanding that, if the CG and pin are in the exact same spot, the weightblock was placed "perfectly" in the ball.
One of the things that creates pin outs (pins away from the cg), are when the weightblock is not "perfectly" centered.
From what I've been told, having the weightblock off center moves the dynamic center of gravity approximately 1 inch for every 1/8 inch the weightblock is off perfect center.
To create a ball with a 3-4 inch pin out, the weightblock would need to be around 3/8-1/2 off center.
If the ball has the cg and the pin in the same spot, it may limit your options some, but there are advanced drilling techniques that can utilize and maximize the potential of a ball like this.

well I really have no use for it I may list is it for sale maybe someone will want it. I only paid 3.00 bucks for it so it should sell quickly. around 20 bucks shipped. I just couldn't pass it up having never seen one like that before.

Did you have the ball weighed to insure the cg was stamped in the correct location. Could be a 2nd with everything mislabeled.

CG no matter. Once you drill the ball the center of gravity changes anyway. I have drilled several short pins(less than 1") with CG and pin above finger holes that roll great. Just ignore the CG and drill it unless it is asymetrical,then you need to try to find the MB.

The center of gravity DOES matter. If the balls that you drilled both pin over and cg over are very high top weight balls, then a good chance they are not legal, cause you wouldn't be able to get all the finger weight out to conform with USBC rules. If you then need to place a balance hole above the fingers, then you may be altering the core shape, hence adjusting the dynamics of the ball, and thus, CG matters, because of altering the core.
So to just say that the CG doesn't matter as a blanket statement is very misleading.

If you don't have a side wt hole in the ball you are missing the best rolling balls out there. Every ball I drill for myself has a side hole,some go deep enough to alter the wt block some don't . All the stuff that i have drilled are legal as I have weighed them out and yes I have had to take out finger wt.

Pretty bold statement that balance holes make the ball "the best rolling balls out there." So basically you're saying in order for a ball the "roll great" it must have a balance hole?? I've had plenty of balls that have been great and didn't need an extra hole.
