This is really strange, but...
I bought a deuce in april of 2003. I used it a LOT. I keep my stuff pretty clean, and do a pretty good job with other maintenance.
At the 1 year mark, the ball had lost most of it's reaction. I sanded it lightly, put it in hook-again. Not much recovery. I then put it in for a full resurface - again - not much recovery. The blueberry smell was almost gone as well.
I couldn't bear to get rid of the ball that I've shot a bunch of honor scores with, so I put it in an old bag.
When I was looking at another used one to buy, I pulled mine out again. The smell was back - I don't know why.
I thought I'd try throwing it again... It's baaaaack...

Is the smell an accurate measure of what's left in the ball?

I don't see either - except that the smell is part of the coverstock.
That's why I'm asking the question - it either correlates, or it's a coincidence.
I don't use that much storm equipment, so I'm not in a position to know for sure.

isnt the smell there to tell you when the ball has become saturated with oil?...thats what ive always been told
