The out of the box finish on the Prodigy is "4000 abralon," but that's just in name only. It's actually sanded with 500 abralon, then they skip straight up to 4000 abralon to finish. Therefore, the ball surface is a lot rougher than you might expect. I couldn't get the OOB surface through the heads no matter how much oil was out there, so I sanded it to 1000 and put a very light polish on it, and now it works great on broken down patterns with carrydown.
The answer is there is no best answer to give you. You just need to try it out and see if you like the reaction or not.
