Recharge/Atomic Charge vs Fired Up
« on: July 31, 2005, 10:38:03 AM »
For all of you guys who throw storm, I am considering throwing one of these three balls, or maybe the diablo when it comes out. I have a high track and probably 15-20 degrees axis of rotation. I have about 18-20 revs off the hand, 17 mph(tweener). Looking for something on a 39' medium oil shot that I can swing say 15 to 5 with. I am looking for something to go fairly long and have enough to come back. I have seen alot of bowlers throw the the recharge and fired up, but not the atomic charge. Since the rg numbers are similar for both, how are they different in reaction.

I threw the A/C and the Recharge, before switching. Never the Fired up, but...it's hard to compare the 3. Only two are med-heavy and one med. I know, they'll probably go more than Storm says, most Storm balls do, but if I were going back to Storm, the Atomic Charge would be the first ball I'd get for the bag.

It was the second ball from them ( other was Hybrid) that boosted my pin count right off the bat. I like the A/C and IMO, is one of the best balls they have made, as long as you don't throw it in a soup of flood, it wasn't made for that.

The Fired Up is your best bet.  But don't put a very strong drilling in it because it is already very strong right out of the box.  I drilled one for my friend 5 x 4 and this ball has a wicked backend move with no stop.  This ball would be perfect for what your looking for.

If you're looking for recovery, the Fired Up has the most.  However, it is really sensitive to wet/dry and gets pretty jumpy.  The Atomic won't make it back.  Good ball, it's just not one you can really swing a whole lot.  Now the Recharge is just about perfect.  It's smoother, but still is strong on the backend.  Reminds me a TON of the original X-Factor.  Having thrown all three, I'd advise you to get a Recharge while you still can.  I'd like to get a Diablo, I just think it'd be too strong for what you're after.  Also, I didn't like the Fired Up at all, strong on the back, but rolled out.  When I got deep enough to get it to hold line, it didn't face back up, whatever my angle of rotation was.  Atomic was nice and smooth, used it to play down and in.  Reacted like strong urethane for me, very predictable.  Recharge was amazing.  Great length, and a very hard arc at the back.  Rolls up well too.

Remember that the Recharge and the Fired-Up are pearls and the ATomic is a solid!

Thank you all for the comments. Yes, I know that the atomic charge is solid. Some solids you can play deep out and in kinda shots, didn't know if this ball was the case. Alot of people are throwing the fired up and having alot of success with it, of course when there is carry down or wet/dry, this is probably not the ball. Since I tend to put the ball into a roll fairly early anywas, I figured it would be a toss up between the recharge and the fired up. But since the diablo looked as if it was going to have teh same med rg core as the fired up, I could always polish it to give me a similar reaction.

If you're looking for any type of length, Atomic is NOT it.  Unless you have a high gloss polish and high RG drilling.  For me it flared very early and was early & smooth.

Personally I think the Fired up is the ball they wanted the Recharge to be?
Although I liked the Recharge alot on the right patterns it needed some friction to make the corner.(even at my rev rate) The fired up reads the patterns earlier and is more predictable IMO.

I have 2 fired ups and they are very very good balls.
I also had 2 atomics which were great control balls but like others say very smooth with early flare.

I would probably stay away from the since discontinued Recharge unless the price is really low. YOu will need some friction for it to make the move. Easy length though.
