I have a ball spinner and purchased snake oil polish. What would be the best way to get the surface back close to the out of box surface? Thanks

Snake oil instructions, no but this is how Storm says to restore the 1,500 grit surface...

Follow the steps below to take the ball back to “out of the box” condition. Items needed: 500-grit, 1000-grit, 2000-grit, and 4000-grit Abralon®, Storm® Step Two™ Polish, a ball spinner and water. All sanding should be done on four sides of the ball. Side one - center of grip up, flip the ball 180 degrees for side two, turn 90 degrees for side three, and flip another 180 degrees for side four.

1. Using the 500-grit Abralon® pad, sand for 30 seconds on each side with firm pressure
2. Using the 1000-grit Abralon® pad, sand for 20 seconds on each side with light pressure
3. Using the 2000-grit Abralon® pad, sand for 20 seconds on each side with light pressure
4. Using the 4000-grit Abralon® pad, sand for 20 seconds on each side with light pressure
5. Using Storm Step Two polish, lightly polish for 15 seconds on each side with light pressure

To touch up the surface, use step #5 only. Use all steps every 30-50 games. Combined with a regular cleaning schedule, this resurfacing method will keep the surface of your new Storm bowling ball more consistent, resulting in greater longevity and a more consistent reaction.

Thanks. I saw those instructions, but I dont have storm step two polish. Anyone use Snake oil?

Snake Oil is a non-abrasive polish; that is, the underlying grit should not be changed by the polish. Storm says their finish is "1500 grit polished". So get your ball to 1500 grit (depending on what the surface is now) and apply Snake Oil. Don't over gloss it and don't apply it lightly. A nice even gloss.

I have used the storm method with some success, although it is hard to get it as shiny as oob. If you are using non-abrasive polish such as snake oil and abralon pads you would need to reach somewhere around 3000 abralon to equal the 1500 US grit storm uses (I believe this is correct, charlest would know for sure). So you may want to try 2000 abralon plus polish and see if that gets it close to oob.

I've tried 1000 grit then snake oil and 2000 grit and snake oil on my Victory Road and it was very dissapointing. The 1000 grit polished grabbed too early, and the 2000 grit polished skid too far. I went back to 500 grit then Step 2, but I can't get that nice shine like jazz said.

*After I posted I re-read Storm's 1500 grit polished instructions and they now say to use 500 to 1000 to 2000 to 4000 then Step 2. This use to just read 500 abralon to grey Scotch Brite pad then Step 2. Weird...

Storms factory finish is so hard to replicate in both appearance and ball reaction. Everytime I get a ball that shiny it doesn't read like it did new, and if I get it to read like it did new its not that shiny.

Its a battle, but to me appearance is irrelevant so i've got an okay system down to get them close by using a 1000 abralon pad and then following it with Ebonite Factory Finish polish and the reaction is damn near the same as the box finish for me, and i've used a lot of different polishes trying to get the box finish.

Yes, it is certainly difficult to replicate storm's 1500grit polish. I noticed that those instructions from Storm are new. I know they had several methods which were all pretty close to one another, just skipping one step here or there. Perhaps they have determined that this is a better way to replicate, maybe I'll give it a shot next time.

Hey all, I emailed Storm earlier today about the change in their 1500 grit surface prep, and indeed that they did make a change and the latest ball comparison chart is accurate.
