my ball luck with Storm balls...
« on: September 30, 2008, 04:18:57 PM »
Hey Group

I recently bought a Dimension and for what ever reason it died on me and after that strange happening just today I picked up a new 15lb. "Attitude Shift" and during the very first game with it the ball cracked in half.....<sigh!!>

And, btw, I love Storm balls it just happens that these freak things decided to
surface on to me

Tomorrow I'll just give my driller a call and have him replace the "Attitude Shift" with a new one. On a side note, the "Attitude Shift" is one real powerful sick hook monster...I love it.

Never had my Attitude crack in half, but the ball return took a nice chunk out of it.  The owner is too cheap to offer to fix it.  He bowls the same league I do when it happened.  I showed him & he says to me, "What ya do, wing it down the gutter?"  No, I didn't.  It happened on a dead flush all 10 in the pit.  What's it matter?  Luckily it's not in my track.

Glad you like your Attitude.  I like mine so much, I am contemplating getting another.

I have a Dimension also, but it just doesn't seem to do what I want.  I'm experimenting w/the cover this week to see if it makes a difference.

What does it do, and what do you want it to do?

My Dimension started off incredibly strong on the backend out of the box, but once I got about a dozen games on it, I finally was able to control it since it settled down and tamed down some.  It hooks a couple boards less than it did before, but it carries better and is more controllable since it makes more of its move in the midlane than the backend now.  It's definately not a backend ball for me, which is fine since I don't fare well with that kind of reaction normally.

Well it's probably me, but when I throw normal speed it doesn't seem to hook back into the pocket, when I slow it down/finesse it, it doesn't carry very well except when I tug it & hit brooklyn, LOL.  I've only used it a couple times so maybe I just need to play w/it more & adjust my lines/hands & closer/farther from the approach.  Then maybe I'll play w/the cover.  I'll try it in pre-league warm-ups & see how it reacts.  I don't like having to adjust my hand tilt/release if I don't have to.  My Attitude & Gravity are perfect compliments to each other.  I don't have to change my speed & release at all, just my line some.

MonsterPike,

Without knowing anything about your game, or how you have your Dimension laid out, it sounds to me that you are fighting the continuation than the core offers. If you like the Attitude, and the Gravity, without having to change releases, you may want to try a balance hole in your Dimension, or increase your balance hole size to alter the shape of the core more, thus giving a little bit of asymmetry to the core.

Big Jake,

I have at least two hundred games on my first Dimension that I drilled, and about 10 games on the second, and I still see the same difference in the two balls as when I drilled the second one (the second Dimension is very strong, and doesn't see the lanes alot). I am only asking, please do not take offense, but are you properly maintaining the cover of your Dimension? This means, cleaning the ball with proper ball cleaner after, not before, every use (meaning your three game block, and wiping the ball after every shot)and touching the cover with a fresh abralon pad every 20 games or so? This new cover is the most consistent cover that I have thrown from Storm since the glory days of the Accu-tread. Now keep in mind, every ball made will have a minor break in period after about 20 games or so, that is just the nature of bowling balls, but the R2X will give you more reliability over the long haul with less hook loss and better hitting potential than other covers on the market today (when properly maintained).

Tommy good point about keeping it clean, so please don't look at my dirty rocks. I have not experienced cover failure on my pieces and my Fired Up has seen mucho games too!!!

Leading reason a Storm ball is not hooking is either (A) Layout or (B) Using to much or to little ball for the condition. Oil is a must for the Dimension unless polished or the cover is smoothed out.
