not to impressed with the fired up.
« on: June 16, 2005, 02:04:01 PM »
threw it tonight bowling on syn. lanes 38 foot pattern, the ball is drilled 3 x 4 with a weight hole to remove excess side weight. the ball just seemed to skid snappy than i was looking for. a friend bill threw it said he had to move 10 boards left (righty) then he does with his ace. is there any thing i can do to calm the reaction down ? any help is appricated.

the ball is doing Exactly what It's designed to do, if you wanted a smoother Reaction something like a screamin banshee would have been a smarter choice.

I have 2 storm balls that arc one is vertigo with pin under ring finger and rad in strong position and other is a leverage drilled Hot Wire drilled roughly 4 x 4. They both work well and the vertigo handles more oil and the Hot Wire is killer on a sport shot i subbed on last week. The new hot rod ss looks to me to be a solid and it has a weaker core in similar to Hot Wire so you might want to wait for it and see how it rolls.

You can get vertigos for 99.00 shipped on bowlingdeals.com they are called comp balls i have one it works just as good as my first does so dont worry about it.

STORM ARCING?

HELL-NO...

If you need some more midlane, you have to drill for flare, altho your better going with someone else for arc.

Storm is all about skid, flip, smash the pocket!!!

Go with visionary for a great arcing hit. Track or Columbia would also be great choices...

No not all storm balls snap, the only ball(s) i have from Storm right now that snap is the Hot Rod with the pin ABOVE the fingers.

The only ball that I've kept from Storm would happen to be my Hot Wire, for the very reasons described above- it's one of the best controlled arcing balls I've ever had the pleasure of using, plus I've been able to make it work.

Another ball to consider if you are looking for more of an arcing motion would be the Power Charge Pearl. I've seen many people use it when they need to tame down wet/dry shots and it's definitely up to the task.

Eraser Banshee or Flashpoint both have an archy move(almost same core).

Both are pearl so there is a little flip!  I love my flashpoint drilled 4 X 5 pin down.

Lots of guys use them when everything else is too flippy.

Another step down in flippiness is the Columbia Panic.

REgards,

Lukcylefty
PS older version(flashpoint) above has flip block on top, newer version has flip block on bottom(eraser banshee).  Should be similar but slightly more on new version.

If you can get your hands on a flash force still that is a great rolly type core that will give you more arc than snap. Plus the solid cover easily can be scufed to give the look you want. I have 2 of them and they are both fantastic. The Screamin has the stronger reactor coverstock on it so it would have a bit more overall hook potential but can also be scuffed to tame down the snap.

My pro shop operator didn't like his reaction ether. try 800 grit smooth.
Vertigo would be a good choice for an arc type reaction. Or if you could get your hands on a Deuce.

I have a Screamin Banshee, and it has more of an arc, but it still snaps near the end. I don't think any storm ball has just an arc, unless you go with a Big Hit Pearl and drill it agressive.

I think Dynothane's Vendetta Pearl has an arcing type reaction (dark blue and grey). See how you like that...

See, that would be the logical thing to do with the big hit pearl, but I did that with mine, and it is almost uncontrollably snappy...no arc whatsoever, just straight up snap.  My Screamin banshee is very arcy now that I knocked the shine off with 2500 grit abralon...best thing you can do to that ball, tames the snap at the end and makes it react like a solid.
