first hook ball for my wife
« on: October 08, 2004, 06:21:30 AM »
My wife wants to get her first hook ball. She's been using a plastic ball for awhile now. she will only have whatever ball she gets plus her plastic ball so it needs to be good for most conditions.

She uses a 12 pound ball. The 12's in the masterline use the same core design as the heavier balls so I was thinking about an x-factor or an Ace. was thinking Ace might be too much ball. but I also remember when I first started bowling It was alot more fun learning to bowl when my ball hooked

anybody have any suggestions.

thanks
klep

Power groove reactive is your best bet it is cheap and will give her a good amount of backend. You might want to take it to 1200 grit and you will get a ball that will handle most conditions.

Actually I should say you will need to mess around with the surface a bit but I prefer starting at 1200 and going from there.

unless she's winging it down there, the ace and x-factor are probably too much.  inter-g's suggestion for the power groove is a good one and won't break the bank.

Yes, I urinate on my ball...it doesn't give me better reaction or make my hands tougher.  It just makes me feel better.

Klep, I agree, if she has a slower ball speed you'll want something thats not very strong. I would agree on a power groove, or maybe a Scout reactive. Either way though, I would get a tame drilling, because slow speed and even medium revs tend to make the ball seem like a hook monster.

are you sure about this?  I did a ball search about 18 months ago for my g/f and email Storm.  They told me that only from 14lbs up are using "the core".  You might want to check with Storm again.

Nemesis hands down for 12# slower speed bowlers.....drilled one up Saturday for one of my customer's......AND THEY LOVED IT.......she could play inside, outside, FROM THE PARKING LOT ROFL!!!!  But it has the core and coverstock all the way down to the 12#.....so that is my suggestion
