If I loved my Code Black, is the Code X a must?
« on: April 08, 2019, 01:40:31 PM »
Title says it all. Code black treated me well. Still have it but it’s dying. Not looking to buy a Code X as it’s replacement. I am looking to revamp my bag with three new balls and looking at the Code X to be the one for heavier oil conditions.

Code X is still R2S Solid so not really a heavy oil ball by today's standards. However it is a really good ball at handling mediums to a little more than medium oil conditions.

If you're only bowling leagues then I could see it being the top of the bag in a 3 ball lineup. If you've liked the Black a lot, I think it's a no brainier

Code Black was a great THS ball for me but never really cared for the Code X because it was just too smooth to go through the pins consistently.

Correct I am just a league bowler. And by “heavier oil” conditions I just mean every now and then the house seems to flood the lanes for the THS.

for a flooded house shot, i can't hype the turmoil solid enough.  and the price point is unbeatable

Even drilled differently with the different covers, the similarity in motion is there between the two. That core is so strong and dominate that if you like the Black, you'll most likely get along with the X.

The only caveat I'll give on the Code X is the need for surface upkeep. We had a bowler on our high school team punch a Code X, and that thing sucked up oil like a vacuum, and the kid using it wasn't a high rev guy, and he wasn't bowling on floods. Still, after about 30-40 games, that ball had to be put in the revivor forever and a day to bleed the oil out and get it hooking again!

Has anyone tried the Code X polished to get the reaction closer to the Code Black and slow down the oil absorption rate?
