Osku Hyroad layout
« on: December 13, 2010, 11:42:31 AM »
anyone see his second hyroad? CG directly under ring, big weight hole towards the fingers, ball prolly had a TON of thumb weight...ball looked like it hooked ALOT more than his other one. Anyone ever try a layout like it?

I have my Tropical HEat drilled similar to that, the weight hole is in a different position and it gives me a nice sharp turn on the backend.....  Works well on longer patterns too, cuz it stores up energy for the dry....

If the CG was directly under his ring, you would get alot of finger weight and not thumb weight.

For a ball to have alot of thumb weight, the CG has to be closer to the thumb hole.

The weight hole isnt there to create excessive amounts of thumb weight, its to remove the excessive amount of finger weight in the ball.

Now some thumb weight could of been in the ball, if all the finger weight was drilled out, without weighing the ball, you will never know.

The cg is an after thought more then likely and has more to do with getting the right pin placement. Looks like a shorter pin ball. If the ball has light top weight you likely won''t need a weight hole. Plus you can drill the fingers 3.5" deep to help shift the weight as well.

In the pic the weight hole looks to be slightly below the center grip of the span so I''m guessing the finger weight was not an issue.

On JCs ball you can tell finger weight appears to be more of an issue and they went with a weight hole to get it back in the ball park.

…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

I have a Furious drilled like this...short pin, so I had to really push the CG up there in order to get the pin where I wanted it.  I drilled the fingers quite deep and it's sitting at 15/16 finger weight right now.  I'll just throw a small extra hole in it before heading to Reno this year.
