Help with a ball please
« on: December 18, 2010, 05:21:22 AM »
Looking for a ball to complement my reign of fire.  I'm a low speed stroker with a 200-205 average.  One night of the week I bowl a fresh house shot, and then twice a month I bowl in a couples league where there the shot is different each time depending on who has been on the lanes beforehand.

What suggestions do you have?

thanks a lot for your input

How do you want it to complement the ROF? Stronger, weaker, earlier, later?

I need something that is strong, but as far as how to specifically complement it I cannot say.  I guess I'm searching for something that will give me a noticeably different look.

The Reign of Fire is basically in the middle of the spectrum of choices. At box finish, its usually good for med-med heavy oil, smoothed out or polished it can be used medium to medium light oil. That's kind of why I'm asking which way you want to go, or what differences in reaction are you looking to see?

I don't have a ROF, but my view of it is as a strong, rolly ball more suited for med-heavy stuff.

For a different look, I would suggest something like a Track Uprising.  More of a skid/snap ball that will definitely clear the front ends a little better.  I have one drilled pin up that is great once the lanes open up a bit.  I too am a stroker and really like the aggressive back end of the Uprising.

A pearl of some sort would be good too.  I have a Track 715A that I like and you can probably get one cheap now. Very angular as well, but great length.

My two cents.

Well I'm probably looking for something with a sharper backend reaction because the ROF is a rollier ball as you say.  Is there a good pearl now that can handle both medium and very oily conditions?

Anarchy would be the choice. Virtual energy would fill the bill too. For a little less oil, Hyroad or the upcoming Victory road would be good.

I am not very sophisticated in analyzing equipment.  Since I am a low-revver, would I face a lot less of a problem if I was throwing the anarchy on a lower  volume pattern than someone who cranks it?

Yes. It is about as strong a pearl as you can get. The Virtual Energy is a hybrid (part pearl, part solid)

your best bet for a reaction compliment but be noticably different from your ROF is the original Reign! its still around in plenty of shops and was the first ball in this series. Its a great skid snap piece in the hands of anyone from stroker to cranker. on a fresh shot it might be a little too strong or over under but with a little burn in the heads or track area this ball will make a very strong move down lane for you.

What are your guys opinions about the differences between the Reign and the Anarchy?

Thanks so much for all the help provided so far

The Reign is not a bad complement to the ROF, but the Anarchy is significantly stronger overall. Basically, drilled similarly, the Anarchy will start earlier, cover more boards, and be usable on somewhat more oil than the reign, whereas the Reign will get better length, and on some conditions, a stronger backend.
Depends what you are looking for.

The Reign Supreme also might be a good choice also, just drill it different. It has the same wt block but a hybrid cover so it will give you something somewhat familiar but can be drilled stronger or weaker depending on what you want. if you use 14# stuff,I bought a Reign Supreme and decided it was too strong for me so I would let it go for what I have in it. LMK what you think!!

Thanks for all the help everyone.

I think I'm going to get an Anarchy and have it drilled very strong.  I'm hoping between the Anarchy and the ROF that I'll be able to handle most conditions.  As I'm a low revver with low speed I'm hoping these 2 balls will help me get the carry I need.

In out of box condition there will be times when the Reign of Fire covers more boards and vice versa. Both are great reacting balls and should be quite a bit different.
