« on: March 25, 2008, 09:50:00 AM »
I have 3 balls right now and wonder if i still need any balls? I am bumping up to 16 pounds and look to get a brand new arsenal.
Cell - drilled aggressively
Total inferno - drilled weaker
T-road - drilled aggressively
A spare ball..
I was thinnking for a tropical for shortern pattern...
how do you guys put together a 6 ball arsenal?
how many pearl and how many solids?

I would get a Neptune for lighter stuff.  It is by far the smoothest piece I've ever seen off the spot.  And maybe a Jolt or a Jolt Pearl to fit in between your T-Road and Neptune gap.

I usually like to go with 1 sanded solid or particle (heavier/carry down), 2 polished solids (1 strong 1 weak), a particle pearl, and 2 pearls (1 strong 1 weak)

Visionary B/G Centaur for light oil.  Skip the Tropical - it's a low end ball, but hooks far too much for what you want.  Maybe something like a Brunswick Sidewinder for a good bench mark ball.  A 6th ball could be something for opening up the lanes, maybe a Black Widow Bite or Complete NV

I like your choices but I would not recommend drilling a cell strong. They are very strong as it is. I have one with the pin up 3 inches and it matches up well on medium oil that is on the heavy side. I would go with the Neptune over the tropical storm. I would also think about the oddysey instead of the Total Inferno just because I have thrown Brunswick and I have thrown Roto Grip and I prefer the way roto grip hits.

I'd listen to this advise.  Personally I like to have a mix of solids, pearls (or hybrids), and pearl particles in order to have multiple looks at the pocket.  The real reason to own an arsenal shouldn't be just to have a heavy, medium, and light oil balls - but to have different angles of entry and different rolls in order to compete on varying conditions.

Pearl reactives tend to get through the heads cleaner and conserve energy for the backends.

Solid reactives tend to be rollier and they are easier to find a line to square up to the pocket.

Particles added to either smooth out the backend reaction - these are usually good for carrydown and wet/dry shots.
