Hot Rod Super Sport Pearl
« on: April 06, 2006, 06:30:50 AM »
Well I can't find the pearl but what a ball.  In our super wet dry center(we had a guy throwing like Tommy Jones the other day 20 to hanging on the gutter with a Saturn the other day and striking) can you say boing!

We have a guy looking GREAT with this Red beauty.  Hot Rod Super Sport pearl.

VERY smooth!

No pearly jerk but on this long pattern where other Hot Rods have looked jumpy this thing in this fellas hands looked great....along with another bowler I let my new to me used one use(drilled similar).  Smooth strong archy and big hit!

Again I don't know where the pearl is but...who cares.  Now let's see if I can get it set up right for the trickier and longer seeming left side!

Funny the Super Sport (yellow) looks like crap in this house...overreactive!

Anyone else notice this...the pearl one smoother than solid?

Unusual!

LuckyLefty,    I have one sitting here to be drilled and this guy wants what you just described....How are these laid out....Pin 1 1/2 from PAP and cg toward palm ...#4 on the sheet ...looked tempting but may weaken it too much....Please inform, Thanks, Al

The guys in my house have pin 1 inch over ring and cg under ring but up...

Stacked... I've only seen them on the right side surprisingly smooth setup like that.

Shocked me.

Don't know if it will be as favorable on the left where it is 3 times as jumpy!(this house)

Have preliminary results...even with pin up on our long shot.

Early enough to flush and carry and really smooth in it's move.

Strangest move for a pearl ever.  Acts like a solid but due to core and drilling little midlane lots of smooth continuous backend.  Played the wet dry well in our centerand also played a much tighter variant straight up the boards very well.

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS if you are a revs stronger than speed bowler this one great ball yet the great coverstock is strong enough yet long enough to give that great blend of length and carry on synthetics covered with a low volume long and spotty pattern!!

I love both of them. The Solid yellow has been my bread and butter for the better part of the season. the Pearl i find flippy.

they are both drilled almost identical but they could both be called flippy. The Pearl being a little sharp at times.

But carrydown for the solid one is not a problem at all.

Dude...I wonder if your drilling is stronger than mine/ours.

Mine is pin over ring...about 5 1/4 from PAP...yours?

A further comment....I find my SS pearl to be a variant on the Rotogrip Sonic Boom but more control at the break and a little more board coverage with less pin.

The boom for me was very touchy at the break in this sort of wet on the left breakpoint center...but not very wet getting there!

I never tried the Ultra Sonic etc(which I note are slightly higher rgs) but if you loved the boom but wished you didn't have slip at the break that was touchy this reactor covered gem is probably a great answer.  (I see why storm raved about this reactor stuff on synthetics)...ohhh ohhh!

Dryish midlanes...this skips right over them!

My pins are at 3 1/2 on both with one at 3 1/2(pap- cg, yellow solid) and the other is about 3 inches(pap-cg,pearl), so they are drilled much stronger than yours, i have large balance holes 2 inches below my pap on both.

I find the yellow solid has as much backend as my diablo just less midlane.

I've polished a few of the yellow ones for high rev players that want balls with smooth backend but continous roll.

The other hot rods are nothing like the SS and SSP

Only ball in this price point with surface that works. So often ball companies will take there low end balls and add particle to the cover and hope it hooks for players with higher ball speeds, but has no backend. This is the answer.

That is my impression also...these are a unique and better twist on an old concept!

These balls are so close to older storm balls like the thunder series.
