pba thunderoad?
« on: March 16, 2010, 06:02:46 AM »
just got a second hand pba thunderoad and wondering what i can expect frpm this ball?
is it meant for heavy oil? medium oil? etc?
was it skid/flip or more arcy?

what was the general feedback on this ball when it was released?
does the pba logo mean anything in particular?

cheers

The PBA logo means that it was a give away during a PBA event.  I do recall when I was about 15 or 16, they had a PBA event in Michigan, and for the Pro-Am they were giving away a Storm ball with your entry fee, and I do believe it was the Thunder Road.  That was about 11-12 years ago.

I never got one, so I can't be completely accurate, but I would think a ball like that would handle more of a medium to medium light pattern.  You have to realize that the "Heavy Oil" equipment from back then in some cases couldn't stand up to the actual heavy oil conditions we have today.

It is probably pretty comparable to a mid range piece of today.  If I had to guess of course and depending on how you throw the ball.

I thought the Blue Thunder and Thunder Roads both had the PBA logo on all of their balls.  I could be wrong though.

I know the Blue Thunder did. My dad had one for years not sure about the Thunder Road.

Originally, it was a heavy oil ball, arc.  Today, it is going to be more of a medium.  It's just about identical to the TRoad solid released a couple years ago, just a different coverstock.

Back in the early stages of registration the PBA logo was used on the Storm brands.

I have one of these balls. 10 years ago it was my benchmark. Today, it will only handle medium to light medium at best. I have mine polished and it's money when all my other weak balls are hooking too much.
