so what's so great about a Tour Power?
« on: April 03, 2011, 05:07:24 AM »
I've noticed that most Storm fans act like the Tour Power is the Holy Grail of Storm bowling balls,Why?

is it the core? core/cover combo? or just a limited run colloctor?

and why is it that the other Storm balls with the same core gets left out in this limelight?

I've noticed some 4 sale now and then and wondered why the high price tag on such an old ball.

Oddly enough, each brand seems to have its own "HOLY GRAIL" of bowling balls.

With Brunswick, it is/was the GOLD Rhino pro. With Ebonite, it is/was the Vortex II(V2). And, with Storm, it appears that the Tour Power has taken that place.

These balls were famed for their consistency and predictability.

Tour Power was a unique ball.  It had a low rg, and also a low differential.  That made it very controllable on tougher patterns, but it still would hit better than a lot of condition balls.  I remember throwing one at the Senior Masters in Tucson about 9 years ago.  I was crossing with Art Trask who was also throwing the Tour Power.  Shot was brutal but we were both plus where it took about -40 to make the cut.  Afterward, one Storm staffer was even asking me about the ball.  As with many cult favorites, it didn't even get become most popular until it was discontinued.

The Tour Power was designed to compete against the Highly successful V2 core that Ebonite was producing. It was a very good benchmark ball. Probably one of the best balls Storm had produced for years. The Tour Power and X-Factor made a great one two punch for alot of bowlers. The tour power on the fresh to control the and read the lane then the XFactor to open it up. I was on Storm Staff when the tour power was out and it was a phenomenal ball.

Great coverstock on that ball, Accu-Tread solid, the X-Factor had the pearl version of Accu-Tread, wish Storm would bring that back.
