Question about a Tropical Storm

I bought this ball with the intention of using it on dry lanes. Big mistake so far. I'm more of a stroker/tweener & this ball plays nothing like the trajectory shown on Storm's web site. It plays very straight & very long with a vicious backend. This ball is not quite strong enough for medium lane conditions because it can't handle carry down but it's way too strong for dry lanes. I think the ball OOB finish is 1500 grit & I want this ball to work on dry lanes, so I'm thinking of taking this ball up to 4000 & repolishing it.

Do you think this will help for dry lanes or just aggravate the problem?

I've only used this ball a half a dozen games or so. And right now I truely hate this ball. Even when I can find the pocket with this ball, it gives me nothing but 10 pins. The ball seems to hit pretty hard but why it doesn't carry a 10, I'll never know.

It will go longer and be more snappy at breakpoint. But its what Id try if I were you....just might  get little more erratic look on the lane. Angle to the pocket might be a bit much. I personally like Urethane Blue Gargoyle ...smooth, but still has a good weight block for hit. or even XXXL if they are fried.

If it goes very long and snaps really hard, it may be "getting behind the headpin", that is, creating too much angle too late.

  A friend of mine also bought a tropical for dry and had the same experience as you.  He too tried polish which didn't work for him.  What he ended up doing with some success was to add surface to the ball so that it would read a little sooner and be more predictable.

  He ended up using it on medium conditions but had better balls for those conditions and ended up getting rid of it.

The core is weak, like you want for dry lanes, but that coverstock IS a very strong one.  I think it's a bit of a misconception that the Tropical Storm is for "dry" lanes.  It's for medium to medium-dry lanes really because it's got such a strong cover.

This is just a question, but wouldn't speed have alot to do with how the ball reacts?

My wife throws one 12mph on medium oil and it works great for her. She does leave alot of weird spares, but the ball always seems to react well on the medium oil.

I'm a tweener at 17-18 mph and I love this ball for dryer lanes!!!
I have a HOT ROD HYBRID for drys lanes too it rolls alot sooner so it doesn't
have the big back end. so I use both balls for dry lanes depending on how dry the backends are... shot 300 with HOT ROD HYBRID!!!

lane #1 clear diamond. i love it. it works on short light to just burned to death lane conditions.

I had the Tropical Storm for a few months and I liked it on medium conditions. I got it for light conditions, and it curved way too much for my taste. I would suggest going with a Blue Vibe and have it drilled weak.

I just used this ball (still in OOB condition) on my 1st ever PBA pattern over the weekend. I used it on the Viper after a couple of aggravating games with my Resurgence & this ball is probably what you want on this pattern. It had a trajectory very similar to what's shown on Storm's site. It was a much more predictable ball on this pattern & I've actually found a use for it. The lanes we were bowling on were synthetic, which was also a 1st. Whether or not this was a factor in how the ball behaved, I don't know.
We also went to a different house & played on their house pattern & the ball behaved very much like it does here at home. They had similar lane conditions. Wood with about a 40ft pattern down the center & a 30-35ft length down the sides. The ball to me is very erratic on this pattern.
