Polished Recovery & carrydown
« on: September 22, 2003, 08:43:27 PM »
Hey everyone,

I hesitate to even consider this, but I have the opportunity to trade for a Trauma Recovery. I've thrown the Response and Shock Trauma and I didn't care for either one. Now, I'm looking for a ball that can handle carrydown effectively. After thinking that the Recovery is a polised particle, I'm thinking that it may be able to work well in that situation. I'm generally a stroker, slightly above average revs, high track, 16-17 mph, but I can change hand positions to increase revs and cover more boards. If I were to keep a Recovery shined up, do you think it would work well on a medium condition with carrydown? Just curious to hear opinions.

my recovery did not recover at all in carry down. heck, it barely hooked at all. great drier lane ball to play up the boards with. I didn't really care for it though. And the scent of it.....P U

It's not for any type of carrydown that I can see.
I was in a tourney at the start of last season and 4 out of 5 men on a team on the next lane had the Recovery. First game they all bowled great with high scores; they all revved the ball quite a bit. By the 3rd/4th frame of the 2nd game, they blew out the shot where they were ALL playing, breakpoint at 7/8 board, about 43/45 feet down. Not one of the 4 could get their Recovery to "recover" out of all the carrydown. Not one of the 4 moved for the next 15/16 frames, NOT one freaking board. Only one of them changed balls.

One schmuck was hysterical in all the banging, yelling and screaming he did.

I'd suggest not buying a Recovery unless you have a open house shot with ZERO carrydown, just as a precaution.

Gene,

I threw the Trauma Recovery for a year and it does not work well in carrydown.  I found the best conditions for the ball are medium light to dry.

Well, i wouldnt say the Recovery is a bad ball.  I mean i shot my second highest series 742, and i even opened in the tenth frame of the 3rd game too, on 7in a row.  And this is on a heavy oil pattern too.  I have also used this ball on a condition using oil that would have carry down after the 4th frame of the first game.  And never had a problem with this ball Recovering.  Now the ball i did this with ended up being stolen outa my car along with my bag n shoes n stuff lol.  And the ball did have a drilling that made it setup earlier, and have a strong backend.  The pin was under the ring finger and the CG was kicked out.  And thats about all i remember of the ball.   I have a new Recovery that i had drilled up Monday(sept22) and its drilled alot weaker, Pin is under the Ring Finger, and CG, is right under it, with the Mass Bias right under my thumb hole, the ball is great on lanes that where used for a night of leagues.  when i was practicing with it i threw 4 or 5 strikes in a row several times only to be stopped by a 9pin everytime DOOOOOH!  So, dont always think its the ball, Alot of the time its the USER! and learn to adjust too

david,

if you read my profile, you'll see that my highest series is a little higher than 742, and i do know how to adjust. not every ball works for every person!!!

I may not be of the same caliber as some of you guys on here but my Recovery was great for about 80 games. It recovered just fine. I would never get a used one though. I am having trouble getting mine to come back to life. I don't know if that hook again works but my Recovery would be a good candidate. It works for a little while when I soak it but it doesn't last that long, only a few games.
My 2 cents.
