BTM's ratings out of 10 on said patterns describe (in my opinon) the length and strength of the coverstock, while telling little about the ball motion or response off of friction. BTM also rates balls based on box finish. Even if they found a great reaction by hitting 600 wet sand on a pearl, they still would give it a 4 in oil. I also found their ratings on sport to be unjust. Often they would give the ball a 5 and then blame the drilling for their poor ball reaction.
Just my personal opinion. I still do read the reviews, and find them interesting, but they still do not quite tell you everything you need to know about the ball. However, I am quite happy with the graphs which they now include showing the ball paths.
