Pro Pin Balls, are they worth it?
« on: March 10, 2004, 11:48:21 AM »
OK, i have seen these balls on EBAY, saying they are Pro Pin, and they are what the PRO's like to use cuz they create big flare and big backend, and bla bla bla,

well my cousin won a Super Charge from ebay, well when he got the ball it had a 6 1/2 inch pin, with 1.68top weight.   well he had the box in his car, along with the ball, and on the box, it had a sticker saying PRO PIN.  he also said it came with a specific instruction book for drillings.

Anyways his ball got drilled with the Pin out on his PAP, and the CG is way over in the Negative side, about 1inch above his thumb.   I couldnt believe this drilling, but he told me the ball hooks like crazy lol.

I am wondering if all PRO PINS come like this, and need a drilling something like this too?

I've said it once and I'll say it again.  These balls on Ebay are a SCAM!  People buy these thinking they are getting a "special" PBA ball.  One rule the PBA has is that they must use balls that are available to the general public.  They do have another rule that differs from the ABC rules.  The ABC states that the largest drill bit you can use for a weight hole is 1 1/4.  The PBA allows you to use a 1 3/8 which is larger.  Using these large pin outs allows them to take advantage of this rule.  That's all there is to it.  Unless you are heading out for the PBA tour, save your money and get a normal ball.

Apparently Lane #1 is offering these as well
**Golden Nugget - PRO PIN 25% off REG price - 15lb and 16lbs $149.95
**Uranium - PRO PIN 25% off REG price - 16lb $149.95
But they are apparently charging LESS for them.
Food for thought. . .

All I know is this. Pro Pin or not, A friend of mine bought an original trauma pearl with a 5 1/2 in pin, drilled what would normaly be leverage, except that the pin iw way above the fingers and the weighthole is massive.

He has gone from a 190 average last year to leading the house with a 225 average and has shot 2 8oo's this year.

The ball is very smooth and controlled and carries virtually everything. I have even thought of getting a long pin ball just to see if it was a fluke or if it was for real. Now I am beginning to think it may be for real.

If he swings it a bit, it just reads the dry and rolls home smoothly and strikes. If he pulls it, it just sets in the oil and rolls right before the rack and strikes. I don't know for sure if it is the ball or what, but he's never been able to do this before, and he's never averaged over 195.

Think what you will, but it definitely works for him!
